AOT Road Construction Report for the week of June 1

Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of June 1, 2026.  

Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.   

Interstates:  

Bethel-Brookfield, I-89 Paving – Paving operations continue, guardrail installation will begin southbound, and fine-milling operations will continue northbound Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting. Motorists should expect grooved pavement, uneven lanes, and temporary lane closures with speed reductions to 55 mph within any active construction areas.  

Montpelier-Waterbury, I-89 South Paving – Motorists will encounter moderate daytime delays between Exits 8 and 10 Monday through Friday. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph, and fines will be doubled.   

Royalton I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation  Concrete and bridge deck work continues near Exit 3, with crossovers and a speed limit of 55 mph in place until fall 2027. Motorists should expect a speed limit of 30 mph on VT 107 with a 14-foot height restriction under Bridge 26S. 

State Highways: 

Addison, VT 17 Paving – Shoulder repairs begin Monday. Expect delays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

Barre-East Montpelier, VT 14 Resurfacing – Paving will continue from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Single-lane closures and alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be in place. Though scheduled for off-peak traffic periods, moderate delays are anticipated when paving occurs near the intersection of U.S. 2. 

Barre Town, Railroad Crossing Improvements  Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., minimal traffic impacts are expected on Quarry Hill Road between Fisher Road and Cherrywood Drive during railroad track work, with potential for alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers.  

Bennington, VT 9/Main Street Bridge Replacement – Crews will continue forming and pouring concrete railings and sidewalks on and off the bridge. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures on Main Street, with traffic controlled by signal lights.  

Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction  College Drive and Matteson Road have reopened at VT 67A, and VT 67A traffic has shifted north onto the roundabout. Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., lane shifts will be in place on VT 67A near the western splitter island for curb and sidewalk installation. 

Brattleboro, U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30 Paving – This paving project is reaching completion. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning, a mobile work zone will be present. Uniformed Traffic Officers will provide a follow-along vehicle and may direct alternating traffic patterns through short lane closures, as needed. 

Brattleboro, VT 9 Class 1 Paving – Utility structure adjustments and milling side roads and driveways is scheduled on VT 9 from the Edmund Heights intersection to the I-91 Exit 2 interchange. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning, flaggers will control traffic in intersections and through single-lane closures. 

Brattleboro-Putney, U.S. 5 Resurfacing – Paving is scheduled between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Flaggers will control traffic patterns on all side roads and intersections. Beginning on Tuesday, one single-lane closure will be in place on U.S. 5 for a maximum distance of 1.5 miles for the application of final pavement. Expect delays.

Colchester, I-89 Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange – Sunday evening through Saturday morning from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., U.S. 2/7 between the I-89 South ramps and I-89 North ramps will have lane closures with traffic shifted for milling, box-cutting, and paving work. The I-89 South on-ramp will have intermittent width reductions at night throughout the week, with a full closure from Friday at 7 p.m. to Saturday at 6 a.m. for milling, widening, and paving work. Traffic will be detoured to Exit 15. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and the I-89 South ramps will have lane closures for roadway maintenance, traffic signal work, light pole installation, and sidewalk prep. Motorists should expect significant delays and rough conditions. Please drive slow, be alert, and consider alternate routes. 

Colchester-Essex, VT 15 Paving – For this resurfacing project between the Colchester/Winooski town line and Susie Wilson Road on VT-15, motorists can expect slow two-way travel Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.   

Derby, U.S. 5 and Alt. U.S. 5 Paving – Sign installation is nearing completion. From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through single-lane closures. 

Derby-Newport, VT 191 Resurfacing – Permanent pavement markings are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Flaggers will control intersections and alternating traffic patterns through single-lane closures as needed. Motorists are advised to watch for wet paint. 

Elmore, VT 12 Bridge #90 Replacement – Crews will work on wingwalls for the second abutment. Traffic on VT 12 near the North Branch Cascades Trail will be one lane with alternating traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by a temporary signal outside of work hours. The speed limit has been reduced to 30 mph through the project area.     

Elmore, VT 12 Bridge #94 Replacement – Crews continue to assemble the temporary bridge. Traffic on VT 12 near Camp Road will be one lane with alternating traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The speed limit has been reduced to 30 mph through the project area. 

Georgia-Fairfax, VT 104A Paving – For this resurfacing project between the VT-104A/U.S. 7 intersection in Georgia extending 4.5 miles into Fairfax, motorists can expect delays with traffic control present allowing for alternating one-lane of travel Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.   

Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews continue work on the north side of the bridge. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal is in place. Pedestrians must also cross on the south side of the bridge. 

Milton, U.S. 7 Intersection Reconfiguration – Alternating one-way traffic will be in effect on Middle Road and Railroad Street from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with flaggers on-site to guide motorists. Crews will also be performing pavement milling and removal, shoulder grading, excavation, and roadway foundation and sidewalk preparation.  

Northfield, VT 12 Retaining Wall Replacement – The southbound lane of VT 12 near the intersection with Town Highway 54 is permanently closed for the construction season. During the day, flaggers will maintain alternating traffic patterns and facilitate trucks and equipment entering the work zone. A temporary traffic light will be active at all other times. 

Pittsford, U.S. 7 Bridge Replacement – Work continues to replace the bridge on U.S. 7 near the intersections of Oxbow Road, Arch Street, and VT 3. Motorists should expect delays on U.S. 7 to allow for alternating one-way travel.    

Plymouth, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – VT 100 is now closed at the Tinker Brook project site until 6/12. During this 14-day closure, travelers heading north from Plymouth Union to West Bridgewater should take VT 100A north to Bridgewater Corners, then U.S. 4 west to West Bridgewater. Southbound travelers should follow the same route in reverse. Signs will be in place to guide traffic along the detour route.  

Poultney, Town Highway/South Street Bridge Rehabilitation – Demolition and excavation at the south abutment continue. Traffic remains shifted to the one-lane temporary bridge, which is open to truck traffic. Temporary signals direct vehicles through the site with flaggers as needed during construction operations and truck movements. Drivers should use caution through the work zone.     

Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – As part of the bridge replacement over the Deerfield River, crews will continue work on the abutment formwork, reinforcing steel, and pier foundation for the new bridge. The temporary bridge continues to carry travelers over the river. 

Troy, VT 243 Resurfacing – Permanent pavement markings are scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday. From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be in place from Dominion Avenue to just south of the Canadian Border. Motorists are advised to watch for wet paint. 

Troy, VT 243 and VT 105 Paving – Shoulder clean-up and sign installation are scheduled throughout the project limits from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through single-lane closures. 

Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – Crews will conduct curb, shared-use path, and bioretention pond work on the west side of VT 2A between Industrial Avenue and Hillside Drive. Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. the southbound right-turn-only lane from VT 2A onto Industrial Avenue will be closed. 

Wolcott, School Street Bridge Replacement – The bridge on School Street remains closed to all traffic with a signed detour in place as crews continue forming wingwalls and backwall for both abutments. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic at the intersection of VT 15 and School Street will be controlled by flaggers.
