VAHHS: Legislative session starts wrapping up

by Devon Green, Sr. Vice President of Policy & Strategy, VAHHS

This is the time when I knock on wood about everything, but it looks like the end is in sight, with just a few issues outstanding. Check below to see what happened last week:

Elimination of Hospital Services: S.189, which sets out a process for the elimination of hospital services, is heading to the governor’s desk.

Reference Based Pricing: S.190 passed the House with the Black Amendment, which directs any savings from the hospital budget process towards VEHI (teachers’ plans) and QHPs (individual/small business plans). Next step for the bill is for the Senate to concur or hold a conference committee.

Private Equity and Prohibition on Corporate Practice of Medicine: H.583, the bill that prohibits the corporate practice of medicine and requires reporting on private equity ownership, is heading to the governor’s desk. The Senate delayed reporting of private equity ownership until March 1, 2027.
