Sugarbush Real Estate under new ownership

Vermont Business Magazine Sugarbush Real Estate is beginning a new chapter rooted in continuity, community, and a deep respect for the relationships that have shaped the brokerage for generations.

After decades of leadership from longtime owners Cindy Carr and Brian Shea, the independent brokerage has transitioned to Dan Cypress and Jessica Bridge, owners of Element Real Estate and Heney Realtors. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The transition became effective this month and reflects a thoughtful, long-term plan to preserve the character and values of Sugarbush Real Estate while introducing state-of-the-art tools and expanded support that will help the brokerage continue to evolve for the future.

Founded by Cindy Carr in 1969, Sugarbush Real Estate has long been known for its deep local roots, trusted relationships, and commitment to helping people find their place in the Mad River Valley. When considering the future of the company, Carr and Shea were focused on finding the right people to carry that legacy forward with care while positioning the brokerage with the resources and technology needed in today’s market.

“This decision was about making sure Sugarbush Real Estate continues to thrive as an independent brokerage while giving our agents and clients even more support moving forward,” said Carr.

For clients and community members, much will remain the same: the same trusted agents, the same local leadership, and the same relationship-driven approach that has defined the company for decades.

Brian Shea will continue in his role as Principal Broker, and Carr will remain actively involved with the brokerage and its clients.

“Sugarbush Real Estate already has something really special,” said Dan Cypress. “There’s a deep level of trust here that’s been built over generations. Our goal is to strengthen that foundation with best-in-class marketing, state-of-the-art technology, and operational support that helps agents work more efficiently and clients feel even more informed and connected throughout the process.”

Over time, the company plans to introduce upgraded technology systems, enhanced digital marketing capabilities, improved client communication tools, expanded administrative support, and a refreshed website and brand presence - all designed to improve the experience for both agents and clients while maintaining the personalized service the brokerage is known for.

Importantly, Sugarbush Real Estate will continue operating independently under its own name, leadership, and identity, while benefiting from additional operational support and modern infrastructure behind the scenes.

For the new ownership team, the transition reflects a broader belief that Vermont’s independent brokerages matter - not just as businesses, but as part of the fabric of the communities they serve.

“People still want local knowledge and real relationships,” said Jessica Bridge. “What’s exciting is being able to pair that personal connection with modern systems and technology that make the experience smoother, more responsive, and more transparent for everyone involved.”

The company emphasized that the transition is not about rapid expansion or changing the culture of the brokerage, but about long-term stewardship, investing in the future, and giving agents and clients access to tools and support that reflect today’s real estate landscape.

Sugarbush Real Estate encourages community members, clients, buyers, and sellers to reach out with questions, connect with the team, or simply start conversations about the market and the future of the Valley.
