Raising and Marketing Beef x Dairy Crossbred Animal Workshops

For the past three and a half years, Vermont Cattlemen has partnered with a group of dairy farms raising beef x dairy crossbred terminal beef animals to evaluate the economic potential of building a Northeast‑based beef supply chain. You’re invited to an upcoming educational series where Vermont Cattlemen will share what they’ve learned and help farmers identify—or refine—their role in the beef supply chain during this unprecedented moment. All events are free, and lunch will be provided at the in‑person sessions.

Spring Events for Farms and Restaurants

Vermont's farm-restaurant economy runs on relationships, and this spring is a great time to build yours. Local Food in Practice: Restaurant & Farm Partnershipsis a free event series built for farmers and restaurant professionals who want to get into the room together.

Start with the live webinar on May 19 about sourcing and selling for the restaurant market, then head over to Pearl Street Pizza in Barre on May 26, take a field walk at Intervale Center in Burlington on June 1, and then visit The Putney Diner on June 16. Events continue through September and are free to attend.

Water Quality and Biodiversity Protection on a Grazing Farm

Join the Winooski Natural Resources Conservation District (WNRCD), with support from UVM Extension and the Vermont Grass Farmers Association, for a visit to Bobolink Farm on May 21.

Bruce and Carol will tour their new covered barnyard for the sheep flock and explain how it has reduced nutrient runoff, improved flock health, and cut feed waste. They’ll also show where round bales were fed in November–December and discuss why overwintering on pasture hasn’t worked well for them. The event will finish with a look at their grazing system, pasture soil health, and forage quality.

Ag Lease 101 Webinar: Your Key to Farmland Access 

The University of Maryland is hosting a free webinar on May 27 about agricultural leases and farmland access. The speaker, Paul Goeringer, is a Principal Faculty Specialist and the Extension Legal Specialist at the University of Maryland. His research and extension program focuses on agricultural leases, energy leases, landowner liability, production contracts, agricultural nuisance issues, environmental law, and estate planning issues impacting agricultural producers.

Save the Date for the Annual Crops and Soils Field Day

Save the date! The 19th Annual Crops and Soils Field Day at Borderview Research Farm in Alburgh, VT, will be on July 23. All are welcome! This event is a culmination of the UVM Extension Northwest Crops and Soils Program's research, outreach, and community engagement efforts over the past year. Attend workshops and sessions led by industry experts, network with community members, and learn about the latest local agricultural innovations. This event is free for farmers.
