Vermont Business Magazine The Attorney General’s Office announced that Spencer L. Bates, 38, of North Ferrisburgh, Vermont, was arraigned today on one felony charge of sexual assault and one felony charge of aggravated sexual assault. The charges brought against Bates are the result of an investigation conducted by the Middlebury Police Department.
Bates pleaded not guilty at the arraignment in Vermont Superior Court, Addison Criminal Division. The Court, Judge David Fenster presiding, ordered Bates released on conditions including that he not leave the state of Vermont without Court permission, that he not possess firearms or other dangerous weapons, and that he have no contact with the victim.
The Attorney General’s Office emphasizes that individuals charged with a crime are legally presumed innocent until their guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
