Farm Agronomic Practices Program Pays Farmers for Conservation Practices
Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets The Farm Agronomic Practices (FAP) program from the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets supports over 200 Vermont farmers every year to install conservation practices. FAP provides a per-acre payment rate, up to $10,000 total per year, to any Vermont farm that will install rotational grazing, no till pasture and hayland seeding, no till planting, crop rotations, manure injection and/or cover crop in 2026.
This program is flexible and noncompetitive. All farms that fill out the paperwork and are eligible will receive payment. Farms are not eligible to receive funding for practices that have already been funded through another payment program.
Reimbursement is issued after the eligible conservation practices are implemented. Applications that include spring practices are due April 1.
The Vermont Barn Painting Project is returning for the 2026 season, offering support to farm families working to preserve their historic barns. With funding from the A. Pizzagalli Family Farm Fund, the program reimburses barn owners for painting and minor repairs that keep these iconic structures strong and visually vibrant.
The 2026 application is open now through April 30. Ten barns will be selected for funding. Apply online or email [email protected].
