Vermont Business Magazine VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region has hired a Pediatric Occupational Therapist in Rutland County, restoring a critical service the agency has not been able to offer for many years due to staffing. The addition comes as the organization celebrates 80 years of caring for communities across Bennington, Rutland and Franklin counties in Vermont.
VNAHSR recognizes the urgent and growing need for accessible pediatric therapy services. For too long, parents in Rutland County seeking occupational therapy for their children have faced long travel distances, extended waitlists, or limited options. Bringing this specialty back in-house represents a meaningful investment in the health and future of local children.
“Children cannot afford to wait for the support they need,” said Heidi Gillespie, Director of Children’s and Family Services. “It's wonderful to see that in our 80th year, we can add pediatric occupational therapy to our robust list of services. We were founded to respond to community needs, and today that means ensuring children can receive critical services in their homes.”
Pediatric occupational therapy supports children in developing essential life skills, including fine motor coordination, sensory processing, feeding skills, self-care routines, and school readiness. Early and consistent intervention can have a lifelong impact, helping children gain independence and confidence during crucial stages of development.
For eight decades, VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region has evolved alongside the communities it serves, expanding programs to meet changing needs while remaining grounded in compassionate, skilled, community-based care. The return of pediatric occupational therapy underscores the agency’s continued commitment to strengthening access to high-quality services for patients of all ages.
