A Message from SVCOA Executive Director, Rosemary Greene

As we move through another Vermont summer, I'm reminded that healthy aging is about so much more than healthcare; it's about staying connected, continuing to learn, finding purpose, and supporting one another along the way. Every day at SVCOA, we're fortunate to see the strength of our communities and the incredible difference that connection can make in the lives of older Vermonters.

This season, I encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities available through SVCOA. Whether you're learning about your Medicare options through our monthly New to Medicare class, visiting one of our welcoming Mindful Moments Memory Cafés, attending our new initiative with our partners at VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region, Tea, Treats & Truths About Aging, or building healthier habits through our Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less online program, each offers a chance to gain knowledge, build relationships, and invest in your well-being.

We're also excited to announce another opportunity to strengthen wellness throughout our region. SVCOA is now accepting applications for our Evidence-Based Wellness Grant, which will help nonprofit organizations and community partners expand proven health promotion and disease prevention programs for older adults in Bennington and Rutland Counties. We know that lasting impact comes through collaboration, and we're excited to support innovative ideas that help older Vermonters remain healthy, active, and independent. Applications are due September 15, 2026, and more information is available at www.svcoa.org/wellness.

Finally, if you've ever considered volunteering, I hope you'll take that next step. A friendly visit, a helping hand, or simply sharing your time can have a profound impact on someone else's life, and often enriches your own in return.

Thank you for allowing SVCOA to be part of your journey. Whether you participate in a class, attend an event, volunteer, or simply share our resources with a neighbor, you are helping us build stronger, more connected communities where every older Vermonter has the opportunity to thrive.

Warm regards,

Rosemary Greene
