Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont.

Interstates:
Bethel-Brookfield, I-89 Paving – Motorists should expect grooved pavement, narrow ramp segments, and single-lane closures with speed reductions to 55 mph on I-89 northbound and southbound between Brookfield and Bethel, and on the southbound Exit 4 on- and off-ramps, near active construction operations. Crews will be working Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting.
Montpelier-Waterbury, I-89 South Paving – Motorists should expect delays Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists will encounter Southbound I-89 Exit 8 ramp closures Monday and Tuesday and Exit 9 Ramp closures on Wednesday with message boards directing specific detour information, in addition to southbound lane closures from Exit 10 to Exit 8. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and fines will be doubled.
Newbury-Ryegate, I-91 Paving – A single-lane closure is planned between Exits 16 and 18 on I-91 North for final paving operations. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph will be in place. Motorcyclists should watch for uneven surfaces.
Royalton, I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation – Bridge deck, abutment, and pier work will continue near Exit 3, with crossovers, 15-foot width restrictions, and a speed limit of 55 mph in place until fall 2027. Motorists should expect a lane diversion and a speed limit of 30 mph on VT 107, with a 14-foot height restriction under Bridge 26S.
Waterbury-Richmond, I-89 Southbound Paving – Motorists can expect one-lane of travel during daytime and nighttime working hours, with occasional northbound closures at the U-turns during working hours. Motorists should use both lanes to the merge point and anticipate slow-moving travel, uneven lanes, and milled surfaces. Please don't follow construction vehicles into the work zone. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and fines will be doubled.
State Highways:
Addison, VT 17 Paving – Incidental work is continuing. Motorists should expect delays Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Barre City, VT 14 and Hill Street Railroad Crossing Improvements – From 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday, Hill Street will be closed 24/7 to all traffic for drainage and utility work at the railroad tracks. Drivers and cyclists will be detoured via VT 14, U.S. 302, and Hill Street. Pedestrians will be detoured via VT 14, Church Street, U.S. 302, and Perry Street. Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hill Street between VT 14 and Perry Street will be reduced to a single lane with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time. No traffic impacts at the VT 14 railroad crossing until mid-August.
Bennington, VT 9/Main Street Bridge Replacement – Crews will continue forming and pouring concrete railings and sidewalks adjacent to the bridge. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures on Main Street, with traffic controlled by signal lights.
Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., flaggers will control alternating one-way traffic on the VT 67A, Silk Road, Matteson Road, and College Drive approaches to the VT 67A roundabout, with traffic maintained on the roundabout. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time. Crews will install permanent pavement markings and line striping, weather permitting.
Brattleboro, VT 9 Class 1 Paving – Sidewalk work continues and side street milling and paving will begin on VT 9 from the Edward Heights intersection to the I-91 Exit 2 interchange. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning, flaggers will control traffic through single-lane closures. Pedestrians should use caution navigating the work zone and be vigilant for sidewalk detours and accessible ramps.
Brattleboro, U.S. 5 Paving – Adjustments to drainage structures is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning. Flaggers and uniformed traffic officers will direct traffic through single-lane closures in the vicinity of the Exit 3 roundabout. Motorcyclists should watch for uneven surfaces.
Bridgewater, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – Drivers should expect daily lane closures with flaggers and short delays through the work zone. The Bridge 116 closure is scheduled to start on August 12 and expected to last 40 days.
Castleton-Fair Haven VT 4A Paving – Drivers should expect daily daytime lane closures with flaggers and short delays along Route 4A through the villages of Castleton and Fair Haven. Shoulder closures will be in effect as needed.
Colchester, I-89 Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange – Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the outer lanes in either direction along U.S. 2/7 will be closed between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive for curb installation and between Mountain View Drive and Hercules Drive for roadway widening and traffic signal conduit installation. Additionally, intermittent single lane closures will be in effect at the intersection of U.S. 2/7 and Hercules Drive as crews conduct preparatory work for future signal work. Motorists should expect significant delays and rough conditions. Please drive slow, be alert, and consider alternate routes.
Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements – Monday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., the shoulder of the Exit 17 North off-ramp will be closed, with traffic maintained. Lane width reductions and shifts will be in effect. From 8 p.m. Monday to midnightTuesday, the I-89 Exit 17 North and South off-ramps will be fully closed to test the wrong-way detection signage. I-89 northbound traffic will be detoured to Exit 18 and south on U.S. 7. I-89 southbound traffic will be detoured to Exit 16 and north on U.S. 2/7.
Derby, U.S. 5 and Alt. U.S. 5 Paving – Single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be in place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for shoulder work and possible pavement marking. Motorists should watch for wet paint.
Elmore, VT 12 Bridge #90 Replacement – Crews are tying rebar and forming the first abutment of the new bridge. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., VT 12 near North Branch Cascades Trail will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic controlled by flaggers during work hours and a temporary signal otherwise. The speed limit has been reduced to 30 mph through the project area.
Elmore, VT 12 Bridge #94 Replacement – A temporary bridge is now open to all traffic through the project area while crews back fill and install stone fill. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., VT 12 near Camp Road will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic controlled by flaggers. Outside of work hours, both lanes will be open to traffic and controlled by traffic signals. The speed limit has been reduced to 30 mph through the project area.
Georgia-Fairfax, VT 104A Paving – For this resurfacing project between the VT 104A/U.S. 7 intersection in Georgia extending 4.5 miles into Fairfax, Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists can expect delays with traffic control present allowing for alternating one-lane of travel in multiple locations.
Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews continue work on the north side of the bridge. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal is in place. Expect delays on Friday 7/24 as workers remove the concrete barrier from the middle of the road and replace it with orange barrels in preparation for paving. Pedestrians must cross on the south side of the bridge.
Milton, U.S. 7 Intersection Reconfiguration – Alternating one-way traffic with flaggers will be in effect on U.S. 7 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Northfield, VT 12 Retaining Wall Replacement – The southbound lane of VT 12 near the intersection with Town Highway 54 is permanently closed for the construction season. Monday through Friday during work hours, flaggers will maintain alternating traffic patterns and facilitate trucks and equipment entering the work zone. A temporary traffic light will be active at all other times.
Norton, VT 114 Bridge Replacement – For this replacement of bridge #41 over Numbers Brook at MM 3.685, crews will be constructing a diversion roadway. Expect alternating one-way traffic guided by flaggers or temporary signals. Motorists are urged to use caution on gravel surface.
Norton, VT 114 Culvert Replacement – As this project at MM 5.648 begins, crews will be constructing a diversion roadway. Expect alternating one-way traffic guided by flaggers or temporary signals.
Pittsford, Bridge Replacement, US Route 7 – As this bridge replacement project nears completion, motorists can expect little to no delays, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Traffic control may be present for shoulder closures on US 7 and to allow for equipment to be moved out.
Plainfield, U.S. 2 Slope Remediation – Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., U.S. 2 just west of VT 214 will have single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers for slope work, including clearing and excavation.
Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – As part of the bridge replacement over the Deerfield River, crews will continue work on the abutment formwork, reinforcing steel, and pier foundation for the new bridge. The temporary bridge continues to carry travelers over the river.
Ripton, VT 125 Culvert Replacement – Preliminary in-stream work will continue Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Flaggers will maintain alternating traffic patterns through single-lane closures between the intersections with Upper Plains Road and Lincoln Road. Uniformed traffic officers will assist with the installation of detour signs on VT 125, U.S. 7, VT 100, and VT 73.
Troy, VT 243 and VT 105 Paving – Single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be in place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for shoulder work and possibly pavement marking. Motorists should watch for wet paint.
Vershire, VT 113 Bridge Replacement – The contractor will finish installing piles on the first abutment and will start pre-excavating for pile installation on the second abutment, weather permitting. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic patterns through the work zone controlled by temporary traffic signals.
Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should expect major delays throughout the project area. Drivers should plan extra travel time or use alternate routes. Temporary line striping will shift traffic west on VT 2A between Mountain View Road and Bittersweet Circle. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will be in effect along this segment. On Mountain View Road at VT 2A, a single-lane closure with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will also be in effect between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Wolcott, School Street Bridge Replacement – The bridge on School Street remains closed to all traffic with a signed detour in place as crews install structural steel. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., intermittent lane closures are expected on VT 15 and at the intersection of VT 15 and School Street. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers. An increase in truck traffic is expected as bridge materials are delivered to the site using Flat Iron Road to access School Street.
