February 2, 2026 Meeting of the Vermont Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel Federal Nuclear Waste Policy Committee Announced; Committee to Discuss Potential Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Department of Energy (DOE) Policy Changes Resulting from Recent Trump Administration Executive Orders

Vermont Business Magazine The Federal Nuclear Waste Policy (FNWP) Committee of the Vermont Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel (VT NDCAP) will meet on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM.  As permitted by ACT 133 of the 2024 Vermont Legislature, this meeting will be conducted solely as a webcast and teleconference.  

The February 2 meeting is for VT-NDCAP's Federal Nuclear Waste Policy Committee and NOT the full panel. VT-NDCAP has tentatively scheduled a meeting of the full panel for Monday evening, February 9.  Details about that meeting will be made available next week.

At this meeting, the Committee will discuss recently announced changes in NRC and DOE spent nuclear fuel policies resulting from the several 2025 Trump Administration Executive Orders affecting federal policies with respect to nuclear power.  Meeting discussion will consider The Path Forward for Nuclear Waste in the U.S. report that was recently published by the University of British Columbia’s School of Public Policy and Global Affairs, which is available at:

The Committee may also discuss recommending that VT NDCAP join the Spent Nuclear Fuel Coalition that was the subject of the Committee’s November 17, 2025 meeting.

The February 2 FNWP Committee meeting is scheduled to run from 12 Noon to 1 PM.  Opportunities for public questions and comments will be available.  Written questions and comments for the Committee members or the meeting speakers are encouraged and may be submitted to VT NDCAP’s email address at [email protected].  This email address can also be used for questions and replies after the meeting or anytime.
