Residents and Business Owners Invited to Learn About Progress and Discuss Plans for Shelburne’s Future
Vermont Business Magazine Experience Shelburne, the town’s Community and Economic Development Committee, will host two public information sessions on Thursday, January 29, to share its mission, first-year progress, and plans for nurturing Shelburne’s future. The sessions offer an opportunity for residents, business owners, and potential partners to provide input and learn how they can get involved.
Both sessions will be held at Pierson Library in the Community Room. The morning will start with a general community session from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. with an update on the committee’s work and future plans. A second session, tailored to local small business owners, is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with an emphasis on exploring opportunities for collaboration, co-marketing, and placemaking.
“Experience Shelburne is committed to strengthening our quality of life while also enhancing the town’s overall economic health,” said Chunka Mui, Shelburne Selectboard member and chair of Experience Shelburne. “These sessions are opportunities to learn about our progress, offer input, and get involved in building Shelburne’s future. We encourage residents, interested partners, and potential supporters to join us.”
Experience Shelburne was chartered by the town Selectboard in January 2025, and since then more than 30 volunteers have engaged with over 150 community members through interviews, focus groups, surveys, and open meetings. Among the group’s early accomplishments are:
- Assisting in securing the future of the Shelburne Farmers Market;
- Championing the expansion of Winter Lights in partnership with Shelburne Museum;
- Reviving long-dormant Bay Road infrastructure and LaPlatte Bridge upgrade efforts and advancing opportunities to address pedestrian safety and access;
- Developing a unifying brand identity that bridges the town’s many strong local identities, along with a website designed to facilitate the committee’s work and encourage engagement.
At the January 29 sessions, the committee will discuss a three-tier strategic framework: long-term aspirations for Shelburne’s future, mid-term priorities over the next one to three years, and concrete 2026 projects. Near-term initiatives include securing and expanding seasonal events and attractions, advancing critical infrastructure in the Shelburne Bay area, developing a prime property inventory to support targeted growth, and enhancing visitor experience through improved signage, placemaking, and local business support. The meetings are open to the public, and registration is not required. Light refreshments will be served.
“Experience Shelburne represents exactly the kind of partnership that can help our town thrive,” said Town Manager Matt Lawless. “The committee’s work on infrastructure, business support, and community engagement springs directly from the town’s goals, and I encourage residents and business owners to attend these sessions, share their perspectives, and contribute.”
