DMV enforcement out on 'Freeze Patrols' this weekend

Vermont Business Magazine In response to the dangerously cold weather forecasted for Vermont, the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is launching "Freeze Patrols" to enhance motorist safety. These patrols will provide increased coverage on Vermont’s interstates, highways, and secondary roads throughout the weekend.

The National Weather Service predicts that overnight temperatures from Friday into Saturday will drop into single digits and well below zero (teens below zero), with wind chills potentially reaching 40 degrees below zero in some areas. An extreme cold warning is in effect statewide from 7 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday. A slight warm-up is expected on Sunday, followed by snow moving in from the south during the afternoon and evening.

The Vermont DMV Inspectors urge motorists to equip their vehicles with a winter safety kit. Recommended items include blankets, extra clothing, a flashlight, flares, jumper cables, a shovel, an ice scraper, traction aids such as kitty litter or sand, a first-aid kit, extra food and water, and a portable phone charger. It is also advisable to maintain a full tank of gas and ensure that fluids, such as de-icer, are topped off.
