Vermont Business Magazine The Ronald McDonald House of Burlington has received support through the efforts of a Burlington resident and Vermont’s 2025 Mother of the Year, Kathleen Lynch.
Lynch, who is a surgical RN at the University of Vermont Medical Center, selected the Ronald McDonald House as her charity of choice, securing a grant known as the “Golden Rule Grant” through her role as Vermont’s 2025 Mother of the Year. These funds will help the House to advance its mission of keeping families together during a child’s hospitalization.
As a Surgical Registered Nurse, Lynch has witnessed firsthand the critical role a family’s presence plays in a child’s healing.
“Within the walls of this lovely home, families receive the essential components to healing… nourishment, hope and compassion,” said Lynch. “This home-away-from-home captures the generosity of our caring community. It truly stands as 'The House That Love Built' in the heart of Burlington.”
Founded on Valentine’s Day in 1984, the Ronald McDonald House of Burlington recently celebrated its 42nd anniversary of supporting families with a child in the hospital. Individuals and families who live outside of Chittenden County are able to stay free of charge at the House, to be close to their child during care. Home-made, nutritious dinners are served every evening, and in-house counseling services are offered. The Valentine’s Day anniversary reflects the organization’s enduring mission of leading with compassion while providing practical, tangible support.
“Community partnerships like Kathleen’s help make our work possible,” said Kristine Bickford, Executive Director of the House. “Her leadership and compassion have directly impacted the families we serve. Our organization is strengthened by the generosity of our incredible community partners, donors, and dedicated volunteers.”
For families navigating the challenges of childhood illness, the Ronald McDonald House of Burlington serves as a comfortable respite for over 100 families each year. For more information about The Ronald McDonald House of Burlington, please visit www.rmhcvt.org.
