AOT Road Construction Report for the week of September 29

Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of September 29, 2025.  Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.    

 

Interstates:  

Colchester, I-89 Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange  Crews will install drainage infrastructure on Lower Mountain View Drive and adjacent to the I-89 northbound off-ramp and conduct clearing along the slope on U.S. 2/7 near CVS Pharmacy. Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lower Mountain View Drive will have lane shifts. The width of the I-89 Exit 16 northbound off-ramp will be reduced, with traffic maintained. U.S. 2/7 near CVS Pharmacy will be under lane closures and lane reductions. Motorists should expect significant delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.    

Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements  Crews will pave I-89 South near Exit 17, install traffic signals and stormwater treatment infrastructure along U.S. 2, and clean up along U.S. 2 and U.S. 7. From Monday through Friday, I-89 southbound will be reduced to a single lane from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. U.S. 2, between the I-89 southbound off-ramp and U.S. 7, as well as U.S. 7, between the Shell gas station and Wiley Road, will have lane shifts.   

Fairlee, I-91 Bridge Deck Replacement – Replacement of the I-91 South bridge deck over Lake Morey Road continues. Traffic on I-91 remains reduced to a single lane in each direction about a quarter mile before the Exit 15 interchange. A crossover that diverts southbound vehicles onto the northbound bridge around the work zone is active with a speed limit reduction to 55 mph in place.  

Fairlee, I-91 Southbound Ledge Stabilization – I-91 South at Exit 16 is open to one lane of travel within the project area. A work zone speed reduction to 55 mph is in effect. Fines are increased for speeding within the work zone. While not anticipated, rolling roadblocks in the northbound lanes remain a possibility.  

Montpelier-Waterbury, I-89 South Paving – Crews continue with daytime shoulder and guardrail in various areas. Motorists should expect delays during peak travel hours due to the southbound lane closures from Exit 10 to Exit 8. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph within the project limits, and fines will be doubled.   

Royalton, I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation – On I-89 near Exit 3 in Royalton, construction activities continue related to the northbound bridge rehabilitation. Traffic is reduced to a single lane. Southbound traffic will use the travel lane, while northbound traffic crosses the median and returns north past the bridges. The Exit 3 North off-ramp uses a crossover to the new ramp. Speed limits are reduced to 55 mph in work zones and 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. VT 107 has been reduced to 30 mph speed limit and a 14-foot height restriction.  

Swanton-Highgate, I-89 Paving – Finish work on shoulders, bridge joints, and line striping and the installation of rumble strips continues on the I-89 paving project between Exit 20 and the Canadian border. Temporary speed limit reductions to 55 mph will be in place across multiple daily single lane work zones.  

 

State Highways:  

Barre Town–Orange–Topsham, U.S. 302 Resurfacing – Side road paving is the only activity scheduled. Motorists can expect multiple single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic. Minimal delays are anticipated.   

Bennington, VT 9 Bridge Replacement Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Main Street and Beech Street. Utility crews will be working within the roadway limits during both daytime and overnight hours.      

Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction  Crews will install splitter island curb, sidewalk ramps, and conduct work on the center island at the intersections of VT 67A with Matteson Road and College Drive. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., two-way traffic will be maintained on VT 67A along the temporary southern alignment, with intermittent stoppages for construction vehicles. College Drive and Matteson Road are closed at their intersections with VT 67A, with traffic maintained via signed detour routes. 

Brattleboro, U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30 Resurfacing – A Class 1 night paving project is continuing paving, sidewalk, and utility structure work on U.S. 5 (Main Street), VT 30 (Linden Street), VT 9 (Western Avenue and High Street) and VT 142 (Vernon Street). From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday night through Saturday morning, traffic will be reduced to a single lane and flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through multiple work zones. Parking restrictions will be enforced during working hours. Pedestrians should be vigilant for sidewalk detours. Motorists should watch for elevated utility structures and wet paint.  

Brattleboro-Putney, U.S. 5 Resurfacing – A night paving project is beginning on U.S. 5 (Putney Road) at the intersection with Vermont Avenue and continuing north to the intersection with Noah’s Lane. Between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday night through Saturday morning, flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through the work zone. Motorcyclists should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.  

Cambridge-Johnson, VT 15 Resurfacing – Crews may be onsite to conduct concrete sidewalk work on VT 15 in the Village of Johnson and clean drainage pipes on VT 15 in Johnson and Cambridge. Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., flaggers may be onsite to control alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 between VT 100C in Johnson and the VT 15/VT 108 roundabout in Cambridge. Crews will be off the roadway from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on VT 15 in the Village of Johnson.   

Elmore, VT 12 Bridge Replacement – Bridge work will resume as crews continue abutment work on the temporary bridge. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 12 near Camp Road. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.  

Enosburg Falls, VT 105 Sidewalk Project – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews could be present on-site a few days during the week, with intermittent reductions in VT 105 to one lane with flaggers for sidewalk work near the intersections of VT 105 and Water Tower Road, and VT 105 and Pleasant Street. 

Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews continue work on the north side of the bridge. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal is in place. Pedestrians must also cross on the south side of the bridge. Those walking from the gift shop lot to the southern sidewalk must cross at the visitor center crosswalk. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.      

Hinesburg-South Burlington, VT 116 Resurfacing Project – Work between the Hinesburg/St. George line and Tilley Drive continues with traffic control present Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. allowing for one lane of alternating travel within the work areas. Motorists should expect delays.  

Jericho, VT 15 Sidewalk Project – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., crews are expected to be on-site a few days during the week to install the rapid flashing beacons at the crosswalk close to the Park Street intersection. There will be intermittent mild impact on vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Work is between the intersections of VT 15 and Jericho Market Drive and VT 15 and Park Street. 

Ludlow, VT 100 and VT 103 Resurfacing – Single-lane closures will be in place on VT 103 and VT 100S for daytime driveway apron paving and clean-up operations on this Class 1 paving project. Flaggers will control one-way alternating traffic patterns through the work zones.   

Pittsford, U.S. 7 Bridge Replacement – For this bridge replacement project at the intersection of U.S. 7 and VT 3, Monday through Thursday motorists can expect traffic control will be present to all for construction vehicles in and out of the work area along with lane shifts on U.S. 7.  Friday, motorists can expect traffic control present allowing for one lane of alternating travel, motorists should expect delays.  

Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – As part of the bridge replacement over the Deerfield River, crews will finish assembling the 360-foot-long temporary bridge adjacent to Depot Street. Depot Street will be one lane controlled by flaggers periodically.    

Rockingham, U.S. 5 (Missing Link Rd.) Bridge Replacement – Bridge deck work continues. A one-lane alternating traffic pattern regulated by temporary signals or flaggers will be in effect for the next several weeks. The roadway width has been reduced to 10 feet wide. Expect lengthy delays on Saturday, 9/27 for bridge deck grinding operations.   

Searsburg, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Next week, the contractor will begin removing the temporary roadway using dump trucks, with flaggers directing traffic. During this work, traffic will alternate one-way. Both lanes will reopen at the end of each workday. Tomorrow, crews will also install the centerline rumble strip.  

Washington, VT 110 Bridge #15 Replacement Project – The contractor anticipates finishing guardrail work and starting paving, weather permitting. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts on VT 110 in Washington with alternating one-way traffic patterns controlled by flaggers. Motorists are advised to use extra caution as the bridge is not paved and vehicles will be traveling on a gravel surface.  

Waterbury, Stowe Street Town Bridge Replacement – Bridge work continues as crews install the sidewalks and stamped concrete truck aprons. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on Stowe Street and Lincoln Street and shoulder closures on VT 100 North between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should anticipate delays along VT 100 in Waterbury and at the intersection of Stowe Street. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.  

Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – Crews will conduct traffic signal work at the VT 2A and Industrial Avenue intersection, and road reconstruction and widening on Mountain View Road between VT 2A and just west of Marions Way. Starting Monday, at 6:30 a.m., Mountain View Road will be restricted to eastbound only between VT 2A and just west of Marions Way. Westbound traffic will be detoured from Mountain View Road to North Williston Road, U.S. 2, and VT 2A. The closure will be in effect 24/7 for approximately three weeks. From Monday through Friday, between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., the VT 2A right-turn-only lane onto Industrial Avenue may be closed. Early next week, flaggers will be periodically on-site to control traffic at the VT 2A and Industrial Avenue/Mountain View Road intersection. Motorists should expect daytime delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.   

Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement – Culvert work continues as crews install drainage structures and piping, and they may set the structural steel for the new bridge depending on deliveries. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area.   

Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement  Culvert work continues as crews install the final lane marking and the animal fence on each side of the box culvert. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 12 over the new box culvert over Hardwood Brook. Flaggers may be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours. During non-working hours, the roadway is open to two lanes of traffic through the work zone. Motorists are asked to use caution while traveling through the work zone as surface conditions may change.
