DMV offices temporarily closing for computer system upgrade Nov 7&10

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be closed in early November in order to implement the final phase of its modernization project, a major computer system upgrade that is greatly improving customer service with faster, easier transactions and more options for online services.

All offices and the call center will be closed to the public on November 7 and 10.

On November 5 and 6, limited appointments for service will be available, with only services involving vehicles available on November 6, such as registration and title transactions.

DMV offices and the call center will resume regular operation on November 12. (All State offices will be closed on November 11, Veterans Day.)

Online services will be unavailable beginning on the evening of November 5 and will be restored on November 12. In addition, online driver license renewals will be unavailable beginning October 27.

The computer systems being replaced are more than 50 years old and have impeded the Department’s ability to streamline processes and keep up with increasing demand. The new system simplifies transactions and allows the DMV to serve customers better.

New online services for this final phase will include public record requests, driver standing verification, and crash report submission.

All customers who need to renew or replace their identification, driver’s license, or learner’s permit on or around November 6-12 should plan ahead.
