Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of October 20, 2025.

Interstates:
Colchester, I-89 Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange – Crews will continue installing drainage infrastructure under lane reductions and traffic shifts on U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and the I-89 southbound on-ramp and north of Hercules Drive Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Daily blasting activities will require 10-minute stoppages on U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive, and rolling roadblocks along I-89 between Exits 14 and 17 during daylight hours. Motorists should expect significant delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements – At night, crews will pave the Exit 17 northbound off-ramp, including its intersection with U.S. 2, and install aggregate along the shoulders of U.S. 2 and U.S. 7. During the day, crews will continue installing traffic signal wiring and signage on U.S. 2 and U.S. 7. From Sunday at 7 p.m. through Monday at 6 a.m., the I-89 Exit 17 northbound off-ramp will be closed, with northbound traffic detoured via Exit 18 in Milton. There is potential for the northbound off-ramp to be closed again on Monday at 7 p.m. through Tuesday at 6 a.m. From Sunday through Friday, between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., U.S. 2 between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7 as well as U.S. 7 between the Shell gas station and Wiley Road will periodically have single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers. From Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., U.S. 2 between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7 as well as U.S. 7 between the Shell gas station and Wiley Road will have lane shifts, with two-way traffic maintained.
Fairlee, I-91 Bridge Deck Replacement – A bridge deck replacement project over Lake Morey Road is nearing completion. I-91 at Exit 15 is reduced to a single lane of travel in either direction with a speed limit reduction to 55 mph. Motorists should watch for changing traffic patterns through the work zone as the contractor removes traffic control devices and restores both lanes of travel in both directions.
Fairlee, I-91 South Ledge Stabilization – I-91 South at Exit 16 is open to one lane of travel within the project area. A work zone speed reduction to 55 mph is in effect. Fines are increased for speeding within the work zone. Rolling roadblocks in the northbound lanes are possible, however not anticipated.
Montpelier-Waterbury, I-89 South Paving – Crews continue daytime shoulder and guardrail work. Monday through Friday, motorists should expect delays during peak travel hours due to the southbound lane closures from Exit 10 to Exit 8. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph within the project limits, and fines will be doubled.
Royalton, I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation – On I-89 near Exit 3 in Royalton, construction activities continue related to the northbound bridge rehabilitation. Traffic is reduced to a single lane. Southbound traffic will use the travel lane, while northbound traffic crosses the median and returns north past the bridges. The Exit 3 North off-ramp uses a crossover to the new ramp. Speed limits are reduced to 55 mph in work zones and 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. The speed limit has been reduced to 30 MPH, with a 14-foot height restriction under the bridges on VT 107. A pothole has developed on I-89 North that may require repair during the week. Expect slow moving traffic and delays during repairs.
Swanton-Highgate, I-89 Paving – The I-89 paving project between Exit 20 and the Canadian border is finishing up. Daily, single-lane closures will be in place in both directions at various locations throughout the project limits and a temporary speed limit reduction to 55 mph will be in place.
State Highways:
Barre Town–Orange–Topsham, U.S. 302 Resurfacing – Bridge joint work and traffic markings are expected to be completed by Monday, with additional project cleanup continuing through the remainder of the week. Motorists should expect multiple single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic, with long delays likely during traffic marking work in the roundabout, while other project work may cause only minor delays.
Bennington, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Construction crews will begin installing bridge support piles within the roadway, with overhead utility relocation also occurring during daytime hours. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Main Street with signal-controlled traffic. Full bridge work is scheduled to begin on April 13, 2026, when the roadway will close through June 5, 2026.
Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction – Crews will continue installing curb and concrete for the splitter islands and peanut roundabout on VT 67A at its intersections with Matteson Road and College Drive. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., two-way traffic will be maintained on VT 67A along the temporary southern alignment, with intermittent stoppages for construction vehicles. College Drive and Matteson Road are closed at their intersections with VT 67A, with traffic maintained via signed detour routes until mid-November.
Brattleboro, U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30 Resurfacing – A Class 1 night paving project is finishing paving and pavement markings on VT 9 (Western Avenue and High Street) and clean-up operations throughout downtown Brattleboro on U.S. 5, VT 30, and VT 142. Between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning, traffic will be reduced to a single lane and flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through multiple work zones. Parking restrictions will be enforced during working hours throughout the downtown area. Pedestrians should be vigilant for sidewalk detours. Motorists should watch for wet paint.
Brattleboro-Putney, U.S. 5 Resurfacing – A night paving project continues on U.S. 5 (Putney Road) from the intersection with Vermont Avenue north to the intersection with Noah’s Lane. Between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning, flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns.
Cambridge-Johnson, VT 15 Resurfacing – Crews will complete final activities for the project, including culvert cleaning, guardrail repairs, and signage installation on VT 15 in Cambridge and Johnson. Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., flaggers will be periodically on-site to control alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 between Park Street in Johnson and the VT 15/VT 108 roundabout in Cambridge.
Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews continue work on the north side of the bridge. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal is in place. Pedestrians must also cross on the south side of the bridge. Those walking from the gift shop lot to the southern sidewalk must cross at the visitor center crosswalk. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.
Hinesburg-South Burlington, VT 116 Resurfacing Project – Work between the Hinesburg/St. George line and Tilley Drive, S. Burlington continues with traffic control present Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. allowing for one lane of alternating travel within the work areas.
Ludlow, VT 100 and VT 103 Resurfacing – A Class 1 paving project is nearing completion on VT 103 and VT 100S. Single-lane closures will be in place as needed with flaggers controlling one-way alternating traffic patterns through the work zones.
Pittsford, U.S. 7 Bridge Replacement – For this bridge replacement project at the intersection of U.S. 7 and VT 3, motorists can expect traffic control Monday through Friday to allow for construction vehicles in and out of the work area along with lane shifts on U.S. 7. Arch Street access from U.S. Route 7 remains closed until end of work Friday. Motorists will use Pleasant Street to access U.S. Route 7. Closure and detour signs will be present.
Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – As part of the bridge replacement over the Deerfield River, crews will finish assembling the 360-foot-long temporary bridge adjacent to Depot Street. Flaggers will be present on VT 100 later in the week controlling one-lane traffic during paving.
Searsburg, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Stream restoration work will continue, with stone deliveries expected for streambed placement. Deck grinding is tentatively scheduled for Monday. Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic under flagger control during active operations.
Washington, VT 110 Bridge #15 Replacement Project – The contractor anticipates installing shoulders and markings, weather permitting. Clean-up activities are anticipated for later in the week. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts as the contractor anticipates having alternating one-way traffic patterns controlled by flaggers.
Waterbury, Stowe Street Town Bridge Replacement – Bridge work will continue as crews install the final line striping. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on Stowe Street and Lincoln Street and shoulder closures on VT 100 northbound between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should anticipate intermittent delays along VT 100 in Waterbury and at the intersection of Stowe Street. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone. On Monday, the park and ride at 201 Lincoln Street will reopen. GMT and RCT will continue service to their temporary bus stops until Monday 10/27, at which time they will resume normal service at the park and ride.
Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – Crews will pave, mill, shim, and line stripe Mountain View Road between VT 2A and just east of Marions Way, while continuing curb installation along the same stretch, including both corners at the VT 2A intersection. From Monday through Friday, between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Mountain View Road between VT 2A and just east of Marions Way will have lane reductions with flaggers controlling alternating one-way traffic. Motorists should expect daytime delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Wolcott, School Street/Town Highway 3 Bridge Replacement – Bridge work will continue as crews conduct tree work and begin building the access road along VT 15. From 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 near School Street/Town Highway 3. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone during working hours.
Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement – Crews will work on the bridge curbing and roadway approaches. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area.
Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement – Crews may install the animal fence, signage, and delineators on the new culvert. Motorists expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 12 over the new box culvert over Hardwood Brook. Flaggers may be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours. During non-working hours, the roadway is open to two lanes of traffic through the work zone.
