Rock Point School hosts 21st annual Ooky Spooky 5K to benefit COTS

Vermont Business Magazine Rock Point School will host its 21st annual Ooky Spooky 5K fun run and walk, a family-friendly Halloween tradition that raises vital funds for COTS. The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 25, at Rock Point School, located on the scenic shores of Lake Champlain in Burlington.

Each year, community members put on costumes, lace up their sneakers, and join Rock Point students, their families, and staff for a morning of fun and purpose. All proceeds from the race go directly to COTS, supporting the organization’s mission to provide emergency shelter, services, and long-term housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness in the Burlington area.

“Giving back to our community is a cornerstone of our school culture,” said C.J. Spirito, head of school. “The Ooky Spooky 5K is a joyful way for students to take action and make a difference for their neighbors while celebrating the season.”

The 5K course winds through Rock Point’s wooded trails and lakeside paths, offering participants a mix of gentle hills and stunning views. Costumes are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded for the best individual, group, and pet costumes.

The Ooky Spooky 5K has helped ensure that individuals and families in the community have access to safe shelter and supportive services. When a Daystation guest from the 2023 Boot Drive was asked how he felt about COTS he said, "Well, I went in with flipflops and am leaving in boots." This long-running partnership reflects Rock Point School’s commitment to compassion, service, and community engagement.
