VermontBiz This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont.
This is the final report of this construction season. Most projects have finished or will pause soon until spring.

Interstates:
Colchester, I-89 Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange – Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., crews will continue installing drainage infrastructure on U.S. 2/7 under lane closures near Whitcomb Street (Champlain Farms), the I-89 South on-ramp, and Rathe Road (the Park and Ride). Blasting activities will be paused next week and are anticipated to resume the week of 12/1. Independent utility companies will be working throughout the project area, conducting utility work along U.S. 2/7 under lane closures. Motorists should expect significant delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements – During daytime hours, crews will install permanent pavement marking and signage on U.S. 2 and U.S. 7 within the project limits as weather allows. On Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., U.S. 7 between the Shell gas station and Wiley Road, and U.S. 2 between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7 will have lane reductions and shifts. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
Fairlee, I-91 South Ledge Stabilization – I-91 South at Exit 16 is reduced to one lane of travel within the project area. A work zone speed reduction to 55 mph is in effect. Fines are increased for speeding within the work zone.
Royalton, I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation – On I-89 near Exit 3 in Royalton, construction activities related to the bridge rehabilitation continue. Northbound and southbound traffic is reduced to a single low-speed lane over the bridges. The speed limit in work zones has been reduced to 55 mph. At the end of the week, if the removal and repainting of lines in the high-speed lanes have been completed, the high-speed lanes on I-89 North and South will be opened to traffic. The low-speed lane on I-89 South will then be closed to allow for line removal, repainting, and pothole repairs. Traffic on VT 107 will be diverted during joint sealing, and the speed limit on VT 107 has been reduced to 30 mph.
State Highways:
Barre Town–Orange–Topsham, U.S. 302 Resurfacing – All major work has been completed. Miscellaneous project cleanup is scheduled for next week, and guardrail repairs are planned for Tuesday, November 18. Motorists should expect periodic single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic, though any delays are expected to be minimal.
Bennington, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Construction crews will continue installing bridge support piles within the roadway. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Main Street with signal-controlled traffic. Bridge work will begin April 13, 2026, requiring a roadway closure through June 5, 2026. Construction will continue through August 2026.
Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction – Crews may be on-site next week to install rectangular rapid flashing beacons at the designated crosswalks, and complete general cleanup and punch list items in preparation for the winter shutdown. The new peanut roundabout on VT 67A at its intersections with College Drive, Matteson Road, and Silk Road is open to traffic. When using the new roundabout, drivers should slow down, yield to vehicles in the roundabout, enter when there is a safe gap in traffic, travel counterclockwise, and signal before exiting the roundabout. Pedestrians and cyclists have the right of way at crosswalks across College Drive, VT 67A, and Silk Road.
Brattleboro, U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30 Resurfacing – A Class 1 night paving project is finishing final work items throughout downtown Brattleboro on U.S. 5, VT 9, and VT 30. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning, traffic will be reduced to a single lane as needed and flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through the work zone.
Brattleboro-Putney, U.S. 5 Resurfacing – A night paving project is wrapping up for the season on U.S. 5 (Putney Road). From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night to Saturday morning, work zones may be present from the intersection with Vermont Avenue north to the intersection with Noah’s Lane. Nighttime single-lane closures with flagger controlled alternating traffic patterns will be in place as needed. In addition, daytime work zones for ditching will continue on U.S. 5 in Dummerston heading south from Putney. Single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be in place.
Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews will wrap up construction work for the 2025 season. There will be periodic flaggers on site while the barrier is moved to allow for winter snow storage. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal will remain in place throughout the winter. Pedestrians must cross on the south side of the bridge.
Pittsford, U.S. 7 Bridge Replacement – For this bridge replacement project at the intersection of U.S. 7 and VT 3, motorists can expect traffic control Monday through Friday to allow for construction vehicles in and out of the work area along with lane shifts on U.S. 7.
Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – As part of the bridge replacement over the Deerfield River, crews will begin demolishing the old bridge (Bridge #25). All traffic is traveling over the new temporary bridge.
Searsburg, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Minimal traffic impacts are expected as crews install livestakes along the stream on Monday 11/17. Following this, the contractor will complete site cleanup in preparation for the winter shutdown and demobilize from the project area.
Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – Crews will install line striping on VT 2A between Meadowrun Road and River Cove Road, weather permitting, and complete general cleanup and punch list items throughout the project area in preparation for the winter shutdown. Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., VT 2A between Meadowrun Road and River Cove Road may have lane reductions and lane shifts. Drivers are encouraged to plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Wolcott, School Street/Town Highway 3 Bridge Replacement – Bridge work continues as crews install the micropiles for the abutment. The one-way traffic pattern on School Street remains in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until further notice. Motorists can access School Street from VT 15. Traffic cannot access VT 15 from School Street and will instead detour onto Flat Iron Road back to VT 15. Motorists are advised to follow signage and plan travel accordingly. From 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., motorists should expect intermittent alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 near School Street/Town Highway 3. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone during working hours.
Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement – Culvert work continues as crews work on the stone fill on the upstream side of the new bridge and install the remaining approach rail and guardrail. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic over the new bridge on VT 12. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists during working hours. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone during non-working hours.
