Vermont Business Magazine Saint Michael’s College will host alumnus and National Public Radio’s Pentagon reporter Tom Bowman ’77 to speak on Veterans’ Day.
Bowman has worked for NPR since 2006, after nine years at the Baltimore Sun, also reporting on the Pentagon. He will speak about his career as a reporter, including his experience covering 9/11 in Washington, D.C., reporting on the ground from combat zones, and the current climate of journalism covering politics and federal systems.
The talk will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the Dion Family Student Center’s Roy Room (3rd floor). The event is free and open to the public.
Besides reporting on the Pentagon, Bowman is also a co-host of NPR's Taking Cover podcast and “A Good Guy” from NPR’s Embedded.
Bowman was co-winner of a 2006 National Headliners' Award for stories on the lack of advanced tourniquets for U.S. troops in Iraq. He has also been awarded several Edward R. Murrow Awards, including in 2010, for his coverage of a Taliban roadside bomb attack on an Army unit and in 2024 for Best Investigative Reporting for the Taking Cover podcast.
Along with his history degree from Saint Michael’s College, Bowman also holds a master’s degree in American Studies from Boston College.
A Q&A will follow Bowman’s remarks. Light refreshments and cider donuts will also be available for attendees.
