Housing & Homelessness Alliance of Vermont announces leadership transition

Vermont Business Magazine The Housing and Homelessness Alliance of Vermont (HHAV) is pleased to announce that Michael Redmond will serve as Interim Executive Director beginning November 17, 2025. Michael brings extensive experience in nonprofit leadership and homelessness services and advocacy, having most recently served as Executive Director of the Upper Valley Haven, a nonprofit providing shelter, food, and support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and poverty. Under his leadership, the Haven strengthened community partnerships and expanded shelter and supportive housing capacity across the region.

“I’m honored to step into this role and to continue serving Vermonters through the critical work of the Alliance,” said Michael Redmond. “My time at the Upper Valley Haven showed me the power of collaboration and compassion in addressing homelessness. I look forward to working with HHAV’s staff, board, and partners to build a Vermont where everyone has a safe, stable place to call home.”

Sarah Phillips, Chair of HHAV’s Board of Directors, added, “We are delighted to welcome Michael into this interim leadership role. His deep experience leading the Upper Valley Haven and his former service on our Board of Directors make him an ideal guide for the Alliance during this transition. Michael’s steady leadership and proven expertise will help ensure that we remain focused and effective as we continue our vital work.”

The appointment of Michael Redmond follows the announcement that Executive Director Frank Knaack will be stepping down from his position on November 7. The HHAV Board of Directors has expressed deep gratitude for Frank’s leadership and dedication and has implemented a robust transition plan to ensure the organization continues its critical work without interruption.

Under Frank’s leadership, HHAV strengthened partnerships statewide, advanced meaningful policy change, and expanded the organization’s capacity to support providers and communities working to end homelessness and ensure housing for all Vermonters.

“On behalf of the HHAV Board, I want to express our gratitude to Frank,” continued Phillips. “As HHAV’s first Executive Director, he has been a committed and caring leader - helping us put the building blocks for long-term success in place. We wish Frank the best of luck in his next chapter.”

To support a smooth transition, the HHAV Board has established a strong interim leadership structure and initiated a comprehensive search process for a new Executive Director. The board is committed to ensuring a thoughtful and inclusive search that reflects the values and mission of the organization.

“We are confident in the strength of the team and the systems in place to carry this important work forward,” continued Phillips. “Our commitment to ensuring the fundamental right to housing remains unwavering.”
