AOT Road Construction Report for the Week of Nov 3

Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of November 3, 2025. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.    

Interstates:  

Colchester, I-89 Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange Crews will continue installing drainage infrastructure under a lane reduction along the east side of U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and the I-89 southbound on-ramp, and potentially on South Park Drive at its intersection with U.S. 2/7, Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Daily blasting activities will require a lane reduction along the west side of U.S. 2/7 between the I-89 northbound on-ramp and Mountain View Drive, 10-minute stoppages on U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive, and rolling roadblocks along the I-89 Exit 16 interchange ramps during daylight hours before 3 p.m. Motorists should expect significant delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.  

Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements  On Monday night, crews will remove a trench box and backfill near the I-89 Exit 17 northbound off-ramp. During the day, crews will continue installing line striping and pavement markings (weather permitting), traffic signal and streetlights, signage, and conducting general cleanup throughout the project area. From Monday at 8 p.m. to Tuesday at 6 a.m., the I-89 Exit 17 northbound off-ramp will be closed, with northbound traffic detoured to Exit 18. From Monday through Friday, lane reductions will be in effect on I-89 northbound and southbound near Exit 17 during off-peak hours, and on U.S. 2 between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7 as well as U.S. 7 between the Shell gas station and Wiley Road between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Two-way traffic will be maintained on U.S. 2 and U.S. 7.   

Fairlee, I-91 Southbound Ledge Stabilization  I-91 South at Exit 16 is open to one lane of travel within the project area. A work zone speed reduction to 55 mph is in effect. Fines are increased for speeding within the work zone. Rolling roadblocks in the northbound lanes are possible, however not anticipated.  

Montpelier-Waterbury, I-89 South Paving – Clean-up work will wrap up the project for winter shut-down. Motorists should expect delays Monday through Friday during peak travel hours due to southbound lane closures from Exit 10 to Exit 8. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph within the project limits, and fines will be doubled.  

State Highways:  

Bennington, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Construction crews will continue installing bridge support piles within the roadway, with overhead utility relocation also occurring during daytime hours. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Main Street with signal-controlled traffic. Full bridge work is scheduled to begin on April 13, 2026, when the roadway will close through June 5, 2026.   

Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction  Crews will pave the final wearing course on the College Drive and Matteson Road approaches to VT 67A and temporary pavement on Silk Road and at sidewalk ramps. Crews will also install line striping, pavement markings, and signage. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., intermittent single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will take place along the temporary southern alignment of VT 67A near Silk Road and on Silk Road at its intersection with VT 67A. College Drive and Matteson Road are closed at their intersections with VT 67A, with traffic maintained via signed detour routes until mid-November.    

Brattleboro, U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30 Resurfacing – A Class 1 night paving project is finishing pavement markings on VT 9 (Western Avenue and High Street) and final work items throughout downtown Brattleboro on U.S. 5 and VT 30. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning, traffic will be reduced to a single lane and flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through multiple work zones. Streetside parking will be unavailable and strictly enforced during working hours throughout the Brattleboro downtown area. Motorists should watch for wet paint.    

Brattleboro-Putney, U.S. 5 Resurfacing – A night paving project continues on U.S. 5 (Putney Road) from the intersection with Vermont Avenue north to the intersection with Noah’s Lane. From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning, flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns as needed. Motorists should watch for wet paint. Daytime work shifts are also scheduled to begin on U.S. 5 at the Brattleboro/Dummerston town line progressing north. Single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be in place as needed in this location as well.  

Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews continue work on the north side of the bridge. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal is in place. Pedestrians must also cross on the south side of the bridge. Those walking from the gift shop lot to the southern sidewalk must cross at the visitor center crosswalk. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.      

Ludlow, VT 100 and VT 103 Resurfacing – A Class 1 paving project is finishing up and single-lane closures may be required, primarily throughout the project limits of VT 103. Flaggers will control one-way alternating traffic patterns through the work zones. 

Pittsford, U.S. 7 Bridge Replacement – For this bridge replacement project at the intersection of U.S. 7 and VT 3, motorists can expect traffic control Monday through Friday to allow for construction vehicles in and out of the work area along with lane shifts on U.S. 7.   

Searsburg, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Flaggers will be present throughout the week to assist with construction activities, including hauling, seeding, and plantings near the bridge. Motorists should expect brief delays while work is underway.   

Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – Crews will continue paving, adjusting drainage structures, paving driveway aprons, line striping, and performing general cleanup throughout the project area. Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., VT 2A between Meadowrun Road and River Cove Road may have lane reductions and lane shifts. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., VT 2A between Meadowrun Road and River Cove Road, and Mountain View Road between VT 2A and just east of Marions Way, will have instances of alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes. 

Wolcott, School Street/Town Highway 3 Bridge Replacement  Bridge work will continue as crews install the coffer dam for an abutment and begin excavating. The one-way traffic pattern on School Street remains in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until further notice. Motorists can access School Street from VT Route 15. Traffic cannot access VT 15 from School Street and will instead detour onto Flat Iron Road back to VT 15. Motorists are advised to follow signage and plan travel accordingly. From 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 near School Street/Town Highway 3. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone during working hours.  

Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement  Culvert work continues as crews install the expansion joints on the bridge and, weather permitting, pave the approach. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area.    

Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement  Culvert work will continue as crews install the wildlife fence, signage, and delineators on the new culvert. Motorists expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 12 over the new box culvert over Hardwood Brook. Flaggers may be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours. During non-working hours, the roadway is open to two lanes of traffic through the work zone.
