Annual Crops and Soils Field Day

Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets Join UVM Extension on July 24 for the 18th Annual Crops and Soils Field Day at Borderview Research Farm in Alburgh.

This year’s theme, Growing for Tomorrow, highlights cutting-edge research and practical innovations conducted by the Northwest Crops and Soils Programstaff that are shaping the future of agriculture. They will share timely updates on impactful projects that address both today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities. 

The day will feature dynamic speakers, workshops, and a guided tour of Borderview Farm. You’ll hear the latest findings on a diverse range of topics, including hemp, flax, strawberries, vegetables, dry beans, forages, soil health, and much more.

Registration is free for farmers and $25 for non-farmers. Lunch is included.

 Alternative Land Access Webinar

Join NOFA-VT on June 10 for the second session in an alternative land access webinar series. 

This second session will be a conversation with La Finca Cooperative, a worker-owned cooperative grounded in BIPOC leadership and majority stakeholder ownership with a unique land access model.

La Finca Cooperative is working with Land in Common, a community land trust that facilitates a community financing program through owner-financing arrangements, removing banks from the transfer process.

Free Trees for Livestock Farms

The White River Natural Resource Conservation District (NRCD) has a new initiative to integrate agroforestry, pollinator habitat, and perennial food systems into working farms across the Connecticut River Watershed.

This program supports livestock farms with free trees, materials, planning and planting assistance, and opportunities to participate in peer learning and public education events. It aims to promote the ecological and economic benefits of perennial food systems, enhance pollinator habitat, and build capacity for long-term farm planning and stewardship.

Livestock Water System Workshop

Join UVM Extension on June 24 in Randolph for a workshop focused on water systems for livestock grazing operations.

The workshop will be led by Amber Reed from UVM Extension and Ben Gabos and Phil Wilson from the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets. It will cover water system design and implementation, pressure tank needs, water tub and float valve set ups, and pump stations. The afternoon will include an outdoor, hands-on demonstration.
