This Basic Welding training begins with welding safety, a mandatory requirement for use of the Vermont State University Randolph Campus Welding Laboratory.
You will learn MIG, STICK, and TIG welding techniques with plenty of hands-on time and instructor guidance. This training will also cover various types of metals and their properties about welding, proper tank and pressure setup, what an ideal weld should look like, and recognition of when defects occur that produce poor welds. You will also learn how to use a plasma cutter to accurately cut various types of metal.
You can create a small project as part of this training or, with the suggested completion of a rocket stove. All materials are provided.
No previous welding experience is required.![]()
Artificial Insemination of Dairy Cattle
September 3 - 4, 2025
This training, conducted in collaboration with Premier Select Sires, Inc., will blend classroom lectures with practical hands-on labs.
Participants will gain insights into the bovine reproductive cycle and learn about common reproductive management techniques.
The program includes a three-hour session dedicated to developing palpation skills and another three-hour segment focused on artificially inseminating dairy cattle.![]()
September 29 - October 3, 2025
This five-day training is led by three wetland specialists and is based in part on:
- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation manual
- The most recent Supplement for Northeast Region
- The most recent National Wetland Plant List and NRCS Hydric Soil guidance
This training will include field visits to local wetlands, and field practice with identification, form and function evaluations, and overall delineation of wetland areas.
