Peter A. Steele, Regional Administrator, SBA New England Regional Office
Vermont Business Magazine President Trump’s White House and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Kelly Loeffler have appointed Peter A. Steele as Regional Administrator for Region 1 - New England .
In this role, Steele represents the Administration, ensures new policies and procedures are being implemented and oversees SBA's day-to-day operations of the six New England states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
“I am honored to serve the New England Region of the SBA,” said Steele. “As a former small business owner, I understand the challenges and obstacles that business owners face every day, especially when they are first starting up. I'm eager to assist the 1.5 million businesses across our region to start, grow and expand, providing them with the resources they need to help our local economy thrive. When I launched my own small business, I was unaware of all the programs and assistance that SBA provides. I want to make sure that all businesses in New England are aware of SBA and what we can do to help them grow and prosper."
Steele, who started his role with SBA at the end of February, is a seasoned communications strategist with extensive experience in government, corporate and media relations. Most recently serving as Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at Sappi North America, a global manufacturing company, he oversaw internal and external communications, crisis management, media relations and branding.
Previously, Steele worked for the first Trump Administration as the Regional Representative for the U.S. Secretary of Labor, where he played a key role in guiding New England states through workforce and economic recovery initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also served for six years as Director of Communications for Maine Governor Paul R. LePage, leading strategic messaging, media relations and crisis communications for the administration.
With a background in journalism and editorial leadership positions, Steele grew up in a family newspaper on Cape Cod, then founded Twin City TIMES, a successful weekly newspaper in Maine. He has a Bachelor of Arts from Colby College and has been a driving force in shaping public narratives and advancing policy initiatives throughout his career.
