AOT Road Construction Report for the Week of July 7

Vermont Agency of Transportation This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of July 7, 2025. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.

Interstates:    

Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements  Crews continue work on the new U.S. 2 bridge over I-89 at Exit 17 and traffic signals on U.S. 2. Travel lanes are shifted south on U.S. 2 between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7 for bridge construction. Single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers may occur on U.S. 2 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

Fairlee, I-91 Bridge Deck Replacement – Replacement of the I-91 South bridge deck over Lake Morey Road continues. A crossover remains active. Beginning approximately a quarter mile in advance of the Exit 15 interchange, traffic is reduced to a single lane in both directions and being diverted onto I-91 North. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph is in effect.     

Fairlee, I-91 South Ledge Stabilization – Installation of safety measures are being implemented within the project area. Traffic is reduced to a single lane between Exits 16 and 15. A speed reduction is in place.  

Montpelier-Waterbury, I-89 South Paving – In preparation for new pavement, crews will be removing existing surface pavement and paving two separate courses of pavement. Motorists should expect major delays during peak travel hours due to the southbound lane closures from Exit 10 to Exit 8. Motorists should also expect uneven lanes and a milled surface in the travel lane. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph within the project limits and fines will be doubled.   

Royalton, I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation – On I-89 near Exit 3 in Royalton, construction activities continue related to the northbound bridge rehabilitation. Traffic is reduced to a single lane. Southbound traffic will use the travel lane, while northbound traffic crosses the median and returns north past the bridges. The Exit 3 North off-ramp uses a crossover to the new ramp. Speed limits are 55 mph in work zones and 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. The speed limit on VT 107 is reduced to 30 mph with a 14-foot height restriction.   

Swanton-Highgate, I-89 Paving and Stormwater Improvement Projects – Paving and stormwater improvement projects continue on I-89 where a temporary speed limit reduction to 55 mph will be in place across multiple work zones during working hours. Daily lane closures will be in place on I-89 North and South from Exit 20 to the Canadian border. Motorcycles should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.  

State Highways:   

Barre Town-Orange, U.S. 302 Resurfacing From Barre to Orange, motorists should expect multiple single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic. Minor delays are anticipated. 

Bennington, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Utility work will require brief lane closures during the day and night throughout the week. Water service may be temporarily interrupted overnight July 10–11 and July 11–12 with affected properties notified in advance.   

Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction  Crews continue constructing a temporary southern alignment of VT 67A at Silk Road/Matteson Road to prepare for roundabout construction. From Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will occur on VT 67A at the Silk Road/Matteson Road and College Drive intersections.    

Brattleboro, U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30 Resurfacing – A Class 1 night paving project is starting in Brattleboro on U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30. Motorists should be vigilant for day-time sign installation and crews with uniformed traffic officers accessing the shoulders along all approach routes to the project.   

Cambridge-Johnson, VT 15 Resurfacing – On VT 15, crews will continue to pave the final course of asphalt, including driveway aprons. On Monday and Tuesday, the Park and Ride in Cambridge will be closed for construction. From Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., multiple traffic control packages will facilitate alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 between Pearl Street in the Village of Johnson and the Park and Ride in Cambridge. Crews will be off the roadway in Johnson from just east of VT 100C to Park Street from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  

Chelsea-Washington, VT 110 Resurfacing Project – Contractor anticipates resuming paving work in Chelsea Village by middle of next week. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts on VT 110 in the towns of Washington and Chelsea.   

Elmore, VT 12 Bridge Replacement Project –Work has resumed on Bridge #94 as crews add materials to the temporary roadway. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 12 near the bridge and Camp Road. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours.  

Enosburg Falls, VT 105 Sidewalk and Crosswalk Installation – A sidewalk and crosswalk installation project continues on VT 105 in Enosburg Falls to help improve accessibility to the recreation fields. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews may be on site only a few days during the week. VT 105 could be reduced to one lane intermittently with flaggers for cleanup work near the intersections of VT 105 and Water Tower Road, and VT 105 and Pleasant Street.   

Essex-Fairfax, VT 128 Paving – Paving will continue between Weed Road and Route 15 on VT 128 in Essex. Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic on VT 128 from Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zones. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to the grooved pavement surface.   

Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Bridge work continues with the eastbound lane closure and one-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal expected until mid-season when the closure will switch sides to the westbound lane. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.      

Hinesburg-South Burlington, VT 116 resurfacing project – Work between U.S. 2 and the Kennedy Drive intersection continues. Traffic control will be present with one lane of alternating travel Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.    

Jericho, Browns Trace Road Town Bridge Replacement – As part of the town bridge replacement project on Browns Trace Road, the road will be closed from 7 a.m. on Monday, July 7, to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20. Motorists should follow the posted detour signs for alternate routes during the closure.   

Lowell, VT 100 Culvert Replacement – On VT 100 between VT-58 and Lower Village Road, motorists can expect traffic control for daytime lane closures allowing for one lane of alternating travel for a culvert replacement project.  

Ludlow, VT 100 and VT 103 Resurfacing – Daily lane closures will be in place on VT 100 and VT 103 for sidewalk work associated with the Class 1 paving project. Flaggers will be controlling one-way alternating traffic patterns. Sidewalk detours will be in place as needed. Pedestrians should watch for signed detour routes on VT 103 and project fencing leading around closed areas on VT 100S.   

Marshfield-Danville, U.S. 2 Resurfacing Project  Crews will continue placing topsoil and conducting clean-up work in West Danville near Joe’s Pond. Motorists should anticipate minor delays and alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 2 in West Danville near Joe’s Pond. Flaggers and uniformed traffic officers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.  

Pittsford, U.S. 7 Bridge Replacement – For this bridge replacement project, motorists can expect a lane closure on U.S. 7 to allow for truck traffic in and out of the work area.  

Plymouth, VT 100A Bridge Replacement  The bridge over Pinney Hollow Brook, located about 3.7 miles north of VT 100, will close for 42 days for a full replacement starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 7. The road will remain open with signal-controlled traffic from July 4–6 and is expected to reopen on August 18.   

Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – Construction of the temporary bridge piers continues. VT 100 will be open to two lanes of traffic with a lane shift in place. The gazebo parking lot has reopened.  

Rutland, Railroad Crossings – Upgrading the railroad crossing signal system at West Street and Forest Street may require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers from Monday through Friday between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.   

Searsburg, VT 9 Bridge Replacement Work continues at the Searsburg VT 9 culvert site following the installation of deck girders, with crews tying deck rebar and backfilling around abutments. The project site will be closed from Thursday, July 3 at 12 p.m. until Monday, July 7 at 7 a.m. Traffic remains open on the bypass road in both directions, with no changes outside the closure period.   

Sheldon-Enosburg, VT 105 Paving – Contractors will begin installing aggregate shoulders on VT 105, starting in Sheldon and progressing eastward to Enosburg. Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic on VT 105 from Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zones. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to the low shoulders.   

Springfield, VT 11 Culvert Replacement – A 40-day closure of VT 11 will begin on Monday 7/7 for a culvert replacement located a quarter mile west of the intersection with VT 106. Pedestrian access through the work zone will be maintained. A local, signed detour is available on Park Street. Trucks will need to follow the detour signs on VT 106, VT 10, and VT 103 around the work zone.  

Thetford-Fairlee, U.S. 5 Paving – Construction activities related to paving along U.S. 5 continue. Motorists should expect single-lane closures, grooved pavement, and uneven lanes throughout the work zone. Flaggers will be present to assist with alternating one-way traffic. Travel delays are likely, especially during peak hours. Work will take place Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. No weekend work is planned at this time.   

Waterbury, Stowe Street Town Bridge Replacement Project – Work on Bridge #36 on Stowe Street will continue as crews install the cofferdam at Abutment 2 and continue excavating below the channel for new footings. Bridge #36 on Stowe Street over Thatcher Brook will remain closed to all traffic for 60 days. The signed detour will direct traffic along VT 100, U.S. 2, and Stowe Street. Motorists are asked to stay alert and not follow trucks while traveling through the work zone.   

Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection and Roadway Widening – Roadway widening and drainage work will continue on VT 2A between Meadowrun Road and Industrial Ave, with lane reductions and shifts Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and possible alternating one-way traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Milling and paving on Industrial Ave between Gail Terrace and VT 2A will require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Milled and gravel surfaces are present on Industrial Ave and VT 2A. Motorists should expect significant daytime delays and plan extra travel time.  

Worcester, VT 12 Culvert Replacement Project – Crews continue to install the temporary bridge in preparation for the culvert replacement. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on Bridge #87 on VT 12 over Hardwood Brook. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone during non-working hours. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours.   

Worcester, VT 12 Bridge Replacement Project – Crews will excavate the first abutment, haul materials to Bridge #94 to build the temporary roadway, and continue to work on the forms and place concrete for the second abutment. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge on VT 12 over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area.  

Woodstock, Town Bridge Deck Replacement – As part of the concrete deck replacement and minor roadway approach work on Bridge No. 1 over Gulf Stream just north of the junction with VT 12, crews will continue sand bar removal and other bridge-related construction. The road remains closed, with a detour in place along Stimets Road. Detour signs are posted. Motorists should use caution, as the detour route is unpaved. Trucks will be entering and exiting Pomfret Road near Log Cabin Drive, with flaggers present as needed to assist with traffic.
