Advancing Energy Equity in Vermont

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Low Income Trust for Electricity (VLITE) has released its 2023 - 2024 Impact Report, detailing over $2 million in grant investments aimed at supporting Vermont’s energy needs, fostering community resilience, and expanding access to clean, affordable energy solutions.

Since its inception, VLITE has provided $11.7 million in energy-related grants, with a strong focus on assisting Vermonters with low- and moderate-income. This year’s report highlights a wide range of initiatives, including flood recovery efforts, home weatherization programs, clean transportation solutions, and solar energy investments in affordable housing projects.

“Our mission is to create a more equitable energy future for Vermont,” said VLITE Board President Tony Klein. “These 2023 and 2024 investments reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting innovative programs that enhance energy access, affordability, and sustainability for all Vermonters.”

Highlights from the report include:

  • Energy Efficiency & Weatherization – Grants to organizations such as the Capstone Weatherization Agency and NeighborWorks HEAT Squad to support energy audits, weatherization projects, and cold climate heat pumps and heat pump water heaters in homes of Vermonters with low and moderate income.
  • Community Rides Vermont – $200,000 to expand electric vehicle-based on-demand ride services for rural Vermonters.
  • Affordable Housing & Solar Development – Over $300,000 invested in projects like the Champlain Housing Trust solar initiative and the Milton Mobile Home Cooperative electrical service upgrades.
