State and federal funding calendars to preview in Monkton

Research & Planning Tools will Benefit Economic Development in Vermont

Vermont Business Magazine Communications and PR Specialist Kevin Lambert announced today that he has created a comprehensive economic-development funding calendar for the State of Vermont. He will introduce the prototype at the Monkton Town Hall on Tuesday, December 9th at 12:30pm.

“The idea is to create the widest view of the funding landscape for Vermonters looking to build up their lives and communities,” Lambert explained. “The concept has been ruminating for a while, as something useful for the state nonprofits, agencies, congressional teams and residents I admire so deeply. Through local and federal government service, I’m familiar with scoring and submitting grant applications. And when I wrote product copy for big brands, I made SKU calendars to manage deadlines, so this project is essentially a curation of my professional background.”

The Vermont calendar features roughly 350 unique programs offered by state nonprofits, philanthropic organizations and federal and state agencies. Lambert’s vision extends beyond the Green Mountains and Lake Champlain, however: a calendar of U.S. Government grant and loan programs is nearly complete, and versions for the 49 remaining states suggest more adventures in hardcore data entry may lie ahead.

“Nearly 80 percent of the U.S. master funding calendar is populated,” Lambert estimated. “That’s ten federal agencies covering more than 1,400 programs, but more remain to research and render. Then there are the other state calendars. That’s pie in the sky at the moment, as the challenge is daunting enough for little Vermont. Building funding calendars for California, New York and Texas? Ouch. Those are long nights.”

The construction phase of his initiative is coming to a close in the giving season, timing that reflects Lambert’s affection for home. “This shiny new toy is inspired by the people who make Vermont work, who make it wonderful, so the holidays are a good time to unwrap it. I hope it brings them years of happiness and joy in the form of a successful application or two. Those are the gifts that truly keep giving.”
