'Moments in Time' featuring works of Vermonters with dementia on display in South Burlington

Vermont Business Magazine Moments in Time, a collection of works by Vermonters with Dementia, is on display in the Community Room at Allard Square, a Cathedral Square community located at 146 Market Street in South Burlington. The exhibit displays (23) pieces from (13) individual artists and two collages created from art submissions from Residences and Adult Day centers in Vermont. The collection includes a variety of visual art, a wood carving, quilts and a mobile, highlighting the diversity and creativity of Vermonters with dementia.

“Close to 13,000 Vermonters over the age of 65 are living with dementia,” said Meg Polyte, Policy Director at the Vermont Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and Co-curator of the exhibit. “This show seeks to foster understanding, spark conversation, and bring attention to the far-reaching effects of dementia on patients and their loved ones.”

"At Cathedral Square, we believe in celebrating the dignity and creativity of all people we serve," said Kim Fitzgerald, CEO of Cathedral Square. "The Moments in Time exhibit beautifully showcases that a dementia diagnosis doesn't diminish one's capacity for artistic expression. I invite the community to join us in witnessing these powerful voices and engage in meaningful conversations about dementia care.”

In addition to the artwork, there will be information available on the warning signs of dementia, as well as the Alzheimer’s 24/7 Helpline 800-272-3900, a free and confidential resource.

Cathedral Square and the Alzheimer’s Association are hosting two events for public viewing of Moments in Time.

  • August 25 from 9:00-11:30AM – Public Viewing and coffee with legislators at 9:30AM
