Vermont Business Magazine This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont for the week of August 11, 2025.

Interstates:
Colchester, I-89 Exit 17 Interchange Improvements – Crews will continue constructing the new U.S. 2 bridge and paving I-89 South near Exit 17. From Monday through Friday, I-89 will be reduced to a single lane in both directions near Exit 17 during off-peak hours: 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on I-89 northbound and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on I-89 southbound.
Fairlee, I-91 Bridge Deck Replacement – Replacement of the I-91 South bridge deck over Lake Morey Road continues. A temporary crossover is in effect. Beginning approximately a quarter mile in advance of the Exit 15 interchange, traffic is reduced to a single lane in both directions and being diverted onto I-91 North. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph is in effect.
Fairlee, I-91 Southbound Ledge Stabilization – A full closure of I-91 South at Exit 16 is in effect. All southbound traffic will need to exit the interstate at Exit 16 and detour on U.S. 5 to Exit 15 in Fairlee. Temporary signals are in place along the detour route at the intersection of U.S. 5 and Bridge Street. Delays may occur. Rolling roadblocks on the northbound side of the interstate will be in effect throughout the week. Expect delays.
Montpelier-Waterbury, I-89 South Paving – Crews are removing existing surface pavement and paving two separate courses of pavement. Motorists should expect major delays during peak travel hours due to the southbound lane closures from Exit 10 to Exit 8. Motorists should also expect uneven lanes and a milled surface in the travel lane. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph within the project limits and fines will be doubled.
Royalton, I-89 Bridge Rehabilitation – On I-89 near Exit 3 in Royalton, construction activities continue related to the northbound bridge rehabilitation. Traffic is reduced to a single lane. Southbound traffic will use the travel lane, while northbound traffic crosses the median and returns north past the bridges. The Exit 3 North off-ramp uses a crossover to the new ramp. During ramp construction, ramps will be narrowed, and flaggers will manage traffic to allow equipment and trucks to access the work zone. Expect minor delays. Speed limits are 55 mph in work zones and 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. Traffic on VT 107 will be diverted due to stripping operations, with a 30 mph speed limit and a 14-foot height restriction.
Swanton-Highgate, I-89 Paving and Stormwater Improvement Projects – Paving operations continue on I-89 where a temporary speed limit reduction to 55 mph will be in place across multiple work zones during working hours. Daily lane closures will be in place on I-89 North and South from Exit 20 to the Canadian border. Stormwater improvement work will be conducted off Exit 21 and on VT 78. Motorcyclists should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.
State Highways:
Barre Town–Orange–Topsham, U.S. 302 Resurfacing – Motorists should expect multiple single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic as sign installation continues throughout the project corridor. Survey crews will also be on-site performing layout in preparation for final paving.
Bennington, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Main Street, along with a possible short-term closure and detour of Morgan Street at its intersection with Main Street. Utility crews may relocate overhead lines during the day, with underground utility work taking place overnight.
Bennington, VT 67A Roundabout Construction – Crews will place and grade dense grade aggregate along the north side of VT 67A and roadway approaches for College Drive and Matteson Road. From Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., two-way traffic will be maintained on VT 67A along the temporary southern alignment. College Drive and Matteson Road are closed at their intersections with VT 67A, with traffic maintained via signed detour routes, until approximately late September 2025.
Brattleboro, U.S. 5, VT 142, VT 9, and VT 30 Resurfacing – A Class 1 night paving project continues with paving and utility structure work throughout downtown Brattleboro. The paving operation will begin on Main Street and progress to VT 30 (Linden Street). Work zones will also be present on U.S. 5 (Canal Street) and VT 9 (Western Ave and High Street). From 7p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning, traffic will be reduced to a single lane and flaggers will control alternating traffic patterns through multiple work zones. Parking restrictions will be enforced during working hours throughout the work zones. Pedestrians should be vigilant for sidewalk detours. Motorcyclists should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces and all motorists should watch for elevated utility structures in the travel lanes and shoulders.
Brattleboro-Hinsdale, VT/NH 119 New bridge construction – Motorists should watch for shifted lanes at either end of the new bridge while crews work on the expansion joints. Sidewalk detours will be in place as needed.
Brookfield, VT 14 Culvert Replacement – Starting Monday 8/11, VT 14 will be reduced to one lane with flaggers in place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with night work as needed. A full closure will begin on 8/18 and continue for five days, with the road scheduled to reopen by 6:59 a.m. on 8/22. This week, crews will install detour signage and barrier fencing, relocate the stream, install cut-off walls, and remove the existing culvert.
Cambridge-Johnson, VT 15 Resurfacing – Crews will be on-site periodically to install line striping, clean culverts, and conduct shoulder work on VT 15 between the VT 100C intersection in the Village of Johnson and the VT 15 /VT 108 roundabout in Cambridge from Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Flaggers will control alternating one-way traffic. Crews will be off the roadway from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on VT 15 in the Village of Johnson.
Chelsea-Washington, VT 110 Resurfacing Project – No construction activities are planned along VT 110 between Chelsea and Washington as the project has reached substantial completion. Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists may experience periodic, minor traffic impacts on VT 110 in Chelsea as crews complete any remaining activities.
Enosburg Falls, VT 105 Sidewalk and Crosswalk Installation – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews are expected on-site only a few days during the week. VT 105 could be reduced to one lane intermittently with flaggers for cleanup work near the intersections of VT 105 and Water Tower Road, and VT 105 and Pleasant Street.
Hartford, U.S. 4 Quechee Gorge Bridge Project – Crews continue work on the north side of the bridge. One-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal is in place. Pedestrians must also cross on the south side of the bridge. Those walking from the gift shop lot to the southern sidewalk must cross at the visitor center crosswalk. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.
Hinesburg-South Burlington, VT 116 Resurfacing Project – Work between U.S. 2 and the Hinesburg/St. George town line continues with traffic control present Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. allowing for one lane of alternating travel within the work areas. Motorists should expect delays.
Jericho, Browns Trace Road Town Bridge Replacement – Browns Trace Road remains closed, and motorists should follow posted detour signs. This week, crews worked on stone swales, poured the bridge curb and wingwall tops, and prepared the site for paving. Next week, they plan to pave the base course, pour the remaining curb, and install the bridge rail and guardrail.
Jericho, VT 15 Sidewalk Project – This project includes the installation of new sidewalk, crosswalks, and rapid flashing beacons along and across VT 15 between Jericho Market Drive and Park Street intersections. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., crews will continue sidewalk preparation, grading, and placement. VT 15 will be reduced to one lane during working hours, with flaggers, between the intersections of VT 15 and Jericho Market Drive, and VT 15 and Park Street.
Ludlow, VT 100 and VT 103 Resurfacing – Nighttime single-lane closures will be in place on VT 103 for paving associated with the Class 1 paving project. Between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday night through Friday morning, crews will be paving the final layer of pavement through town. Flaggers will control one-way alternating traffic patterns and intersections. Single-lane closures may be in place during the day on VT 103 for some finishing work with the sidewalks and pedestrian detours will be in place as needed.
Pittsford, U.S. 7 Bridge Replacement – For this bridge replacement project at the intersection of U.S. 7 and VT 3, motorists can expect traffic control on U.S. 7 to allow for truck traffic in and out of the work area.
Plymouth, VT 100A Bridge Replacement – The bridge over Pinney Hollow Brook, located approximately 4 miles north of VT 100 and 3 miles south of US 4, is closed until 8/18. VT 100A is open up to the project limits from both directions, but the road is not passable end to end. A signed detour routes through traffic via VT 100 and US 4 through West Bridgewater. Travelers headed to the Calvin Coolidge Historic Site or State Park should access from VT 100 in Plymouth Union. Updated signage is in place to help reduce confusion along the detour.
Readsboro, VT 100 Bridge Replacement – Depot Street will be reduced to one lane with flaggers in place as crews finish installing the temporary bridge pier towers and prepare for the bridge launch by adding rollers, shoring, and a launching nose. The planned reconfiguration of Depot Street is no longer needed, and it will remain paved.
Rockingham, U.S. 5 (Missing Link Rd.) Bridge Replacement – U.S. 5 (Missing Link Road) is fully closed for a duration of 28 days. Demolition of the existing bridge has been completed. A vehicular detour is in place along U.S. 5 to I -91 (between exits 6 and 7) and back to U.S. 5. The bicycle detour utilizes VT 103, Parker Hill Rd., O'Brien Rd., Alden Rd. and U.S. 5.
Searsburg, VT 9 Bridge Replacement – Traffic remains open in both directions on the bypass road, with a reduced speed limit in effect through the work zone. The approach slab concrete pour is planned for 8/14.
Springfield, VT 11 Culvert Replacement – The 40-day closure of VT 11 is scheduled to end on Saturday 8/16. In the meantime, crews will continue to replace the culvert located a quarter mile west of the intersection with VT 106. A local, signed detour is available on Park Street. Trucks will need to follow the regional detour signs on VT 106, VT 10, and VT 103 around the work zone. One-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers will be in place at the intersection with Fairground Road. Pedestrian access through the work zone has been established and pedestrians are reminded to stay on the designated pathways and remain vigilant.
Swanton, VT-78 Stormwater Improvement Project – One-lane alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be present on VT-78 at various locations between Robin Hood Drive and Lafar Street while crews work on the ditches adjacent to the roadway.
Thetford-Fairlee, U.S. 5 Paving – Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic control near active work zones as crews install rumble strips and durable pavement markings. Drivers may also encounter areas with limited pavement markings and low shoulders. Work will take place during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Washington, VT 110 Bridge #15 Replacement Project – Crews will be forming the footings for the precast concrete box/frame. VT 110 between Pray Road and Poor Farm Road at Bridge #15 over an unnamed brook remains closed as part of a three-week bridge closure. During the closure, traffic is detoured along VT 110 to U.S. 302 to VT 14 back to VT 110. Motorists are advised to adhere to all posted signage for detour routes.
Waterbury, Stowe Street Town Bridge Replacement – Bridge work continues as crews set the precast frame. During daytime hours, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should expect periodic closures of the northbound shoulder on VT 100. Beginning Monday 8/11, Lincoln Street will be closed for 14 days. The signed detour will direct traffic to Perry Hill Road, Kneeland Flats Road, and Guptil Road. The bridge on Stowe Street over Thatcher Brook remains closed to all traffic for the 60-day closure. The signed detour will direct traffic along VT 100, U.S. 2, and Stowe Street. Motorists should stay alert and not follow trucks while traveling through the work zone.
Williston, VT 2A and Industrial Ave Intersection Roadway Widening – Crews will continue curb work and begin sidewalk installation on VT 2A and Industrial Ave. From Monday through Friday, between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., the VT 2A southbound right-turn-only lane and VT 2A northbound left-turn-only lane onto Industrial Avenue will be intermittently closed. Alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will be in effect between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on VT 2A between Industrial Avenue and Meadowrun Road and on Industrial Avenue between Gail Terrace and VT 2A. Motorists should expect significant daytime delays and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Woodstock, FAS Route 166/Pomfret Road, Town Bridge Deck Replacement – As part of the concrete deck replacement and minor roadway approach work on the bridge over Gulf Stream just north of the junction with VT 12, Pomfret Road will remain closed this week, with a signed detour in place along Stimets Road. Motorists should use caution, as the detour route is unpaved. Crews will finish preparing the bridge deck for a concrete pour on Tuesday, August 12, then clean up the site and work on the approaches while the deck cures.
Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement – Culvert work will continue as crews form and pour the stem wall on abutment one and wingwall one. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area.
Worcester, VT 12 Bridge and Culvert Replacement – Culvert work will continue as crews disassemble the temporary bridge and begin excavation work in preparation for the setting of the remaining precast box culvert and wingwalls. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary roadway over the new box culvert on VT 12 over Hardwood Brook. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone during non-working hours.
