Vermont Business Magazine September is National Recovery Month and a time to increase awareness surrounding mental health and substance use recovery. Each day, Burlington-based Howard Center supports people in their recoveries and welcomes new clients into treatment. With the help of Howard Center clinicians and services, recovery is possible.
Many people have experienced depression, anxiety, or stress at some point. We all struggle at some time in our lives. But how do you know when it’s more than a passing phase? How do you know when you—or a loved one—may need help for a more serious mental health issue? Recognizing the signs of mental illness isn’t always easy but if you have questions, please talk with your primary care doctor or call Howard Center.
There are several signs that may indicate that someone has a substance use issue. Perhaps their use of alcohol or drugs interferes with being able to fulfill obligations at work and at home. Or they may spend much of their time thinking about how to get alcohol or drugs. Whether someone is trying to quit a substance for the first time, or they’ve tried several times before, Howard Center is here to help. We offer a variety of services and programs for substance use recovery, including counseling and short and long-term treatment.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, defines recovery as a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential. In addition to raising awareness this month, Howard Center also invites you to celebrate friends and neighbors in their journeys to and during recovery.
Howard Center helps people and communities thrive by providing supports and services to address mental health, substance use, and developmental needs. For information about our programs or to access services, please call 802-488-6000.
