Featuring Keynote Speaker Dr. Carolyn Finney
Vermont Business Magazine Registration is now open for the 2024 Vermont Conservation Conference scheduled for Monday, October 7 at Vermont State University in Randolph. Dr. Carolyn Finney, author of “Black Faces, White Spaces: Reimagining the Relationship of African Americans to the Great Outdoors” will deliver the keynote presentation, which will feature a question-and-answer session with the audience.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Finney, renowned storyteller, environmentalist and author, kicking off the conference with a conversation about privilege, belonging, and the inequities of the conservation movement,” said Gus Seelig, Executive Director of Vermont Housing & Conservation Board.
Finney’s talk will highlight ongoing efforts to make nature more inclusive and rebuild equitable relationships in the outdoor and conservation communities.

Organized by the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board (VHCB) in partnership with several leading conservation and environmental organizations, the goal of this all-day conference is to make space for the conservation community across Vermont to meet, share resources, and foster discussions regarding collaborative, strategic, and informed conservation work and planning.
The theme of the conference is "Sowing Seeds: Conservation connections for a resilient future," emphasizing the value of collaboration and the need for immediate and impactful action to conserve 30% of our land and waters by 2030, protect an ecologically functional landscape, mitigate the effects of climate change, support healthy and resilient communities and working lands, and advance environmental justice.
General themes for the day will include: reconciliation, recognition, and restorative justice for the land; landscape-scale conservation; biodiversity; climate solutions; messaging, communications and engagement; working lands; stewardship and restoration; and livable communities.
The conference will feature a wide range of sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities designed to foster dialogue, share best practices, and inspire innovative solutions.
"We are excited to host the Vermont Conservation Conference to provide a platform for meaningful conversations and collaborations that are essential for advancing conservation efforts in our state," said Trey Martin, Director of Conservation and Rural Community Development at VHCB.
The Vermont Conservation Conference is open to anyone with an interest in environmental conservation, including industry professionals, government officials, nonprofit organizations, educators, students, businesses, and concerned citizens.
