Vermont Business Magazine Price Chopper/Market 32 customers and teammates raised $113,855.80 during May and June for its annual “Fill A Glass with Hope/Fill A Plate with Promise” campaign in partnership with the Northeast American Dairy Association, Garelick Farms, and local food banks. During this campaign, customers were encouraged to round up their change at the register. Combined with a $10,000 corporate match, the total gift of $123,855.80 helps provide local food banks with the means to purchase milk and other nutritious foods for the families they serve.  Based on contributions throughout the state, Vermont Food Bank will receive $7,442.19.

When school lets out for the summer, more than 22 million children lose access to free or reduced-price meal programs. For many children in need, even basic staples like milk – and the nutrients that help power the simple joys of summer – are missing. From the total gift, $94,254.55 was split and donated among local food banks, and the remaining $29,601.25 was used to provide 14,875 half gallons of milk to those who missed it most.

“Milk is one of the most requested items at food banks, yet it is rarely donated,” said Pam Cerrone, Price Chopper/Market 32’s director of community relations, “We’re thrilled with these results and proud to partner with Garelick Farms and the American Dairy Association in helping local families, especially during these times of increased nutrition insecurity.”

The American Dairy Association works on behalf of 9,000 dairy farm families in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and northern Virginia and has led the way in bringing fresh milk to families in need through its Fill a Glass with Hope program. 100% of funds raised through grants, individual donations and corporate sponsors are kept local to help deliver milk and essential nutrition to the community.
