Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Secretary of State Sarah Copeland Hanzas reminded members of the public and the media today of how to find results for the November 5 General Election.
Unofficial results are reported to the Secretary of State by Vermont city and town clerks after polls close on the evening of Tuesday, November 5, and posted on the Secretary of State’s website: https://electionresults.vermont.gov/.
Statewide election results will be unofficial until the Statewide Canvassing Committee meets at the Vermont State House to certify the results on Tuesday November 12.
“Vermont is well-known for its free, fair, transparent and accessible elections,” said Secretary Copeland Hanzas. “My office will be working closely with Vermont’s city and town clerks to post the unofficial results of the General Election on the night of November 5, so voters, the media, and all interested parties have access to those results. We then encourage public and media engagement in our post-election day events at the State House.”
Following the certification of results on November 12, the Secretary of State’s Office will hold a public, livestreamed General Election Audit at the State House on Tuesday, December 3. A number of Vermont cities and towns (including some hand-count towns) will be selected, and their reported results will be matched to the paper ballots retained by the clerk, to make sure there are no discrepancies.
Two weeks after that, Vermont’s Presidential Electors will gather at the State House to cast their electoral college votes on Tuesday, December 17.
Summary:
Statewide Canvassing Committee / Results Certification: November 12, 10am.
General Election Audit: December 3, 9am
Meeting of the Vermont 2024 Presidential Electors: December 17, 10am
Each of these events is open to the public, and members of the media must register ahead of time with the State House Sargeant at Arms’ office by email or phone [email protected] / 802-828-2228. Register with your company name and number of personnel attending and check in on the day of the event to receive press passes.
