Vermont Visitor Survey Underway Statewide

Tourism Businesses Encouraged to Help with Outreach

The Department of Tourism and Marketing (VDTM) is conducting a year-long Visitor Profile Study of visitors to Vermont led by Downs & St. Germain Research. The goal of this study is to gather a better understanding of the characteristics, perceptions, and behavior of Vermont visitors to support VDTM’s research-driven approach to destination marketing and development strategies. While people are currently on the ground conducting the in-person intercept survey, we are encouraging tourism properties and attractions to help spread the word that online surveys are also being collected. Downloadable posters are available for any tourism businesses willing to post a flyer to help us reach more visitors.

Eclipse Economic Impact Report, Vermont Signature Events Application, Upcoming Events, and More

Eclipse Economic Impact Report Released

The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing contracted with Tourism Economics and Datafy to study the impact of the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse on the Vermont economy. The researchers found that the eclipse generated $34.8M in visitor spending, which was a welcome boost during April, traditionally the slowest month of the year for tourism. The reports also highlighted that while the eclipse brought an extra 175,000 people to Vermont, visitors who come every year to enjoy fall foliage stay longer and spend more overall. In a recent press release about the reports, Governor Phil Scott said, “It’s great to see the economic boost businesses across Vermont saw as a result of the total solar eclipse. It’s also a good reminder how important fall foliage tourism is to our economy."
