Upcoming Death, Dying & Danish sessions in Bennington & Rutland counties

Vermont Business Magazine VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region (VNAHSR) has announced the upcoming dates for its popular community discussion series, Death, Dying & Danishes. This free, informal gathering provides an opportunity for individuals in the local community to engage in open and honest conversations about life, death and the emotional aspects of grief in a welcoming environment.

The series is led by Hospice volunteers, and aims to create a safe space for people of all ages to explore these often-difficult topics.

The Death, Dying & Danishes sessions are held at local venues across the three counties VNAHSR serves—Franklin, Rutland and Bennington counties—offering the opportunity for residents to join in reflective, thought-provoking conversations. The goal is to encourage greater awareness of end-of-life issues, while also fostering a deeper appreciation for the preciousness of life.

Upcoming Dates & Locations:

- Wednesday, December 20, at 10AM – Bennington Community Market, Bennington

- Thursday, January 9, at 12:45pm – Young at Heart Senior Center, Poultney

- Wednesday, January 17, at 10AM – Bennington Community Market, Bennington

These gatherings are open to all and free of charge. While there is no cost to attend, participants are encouraged to make purchases from the host venues as a way of supporting local businesses.

Mary Pleasant, Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, said, “Our Death, Dying and Danish (DDD) sessions are popping up all across our service areas. DDD provides a safe environment in which interested community members can easily express their thoughts and ask their questions regarding all-things end-of-life. Topics surrounding death and dying are often referred to as taboo subjects, and aren’t often spoken openly in our communities.

DDD provides the opportunity to bring these discussions out into the open, encouraging thought-provoking questions and ideas. What is really cool about these sessions is that there isn’t an agenda, so the conversation flows in the direction participants need it to.”

The Death, Dying & Danishes series is part of VNAHSR’s broader commitment to supporting the emotional needs of individuals and families as they navigate the challenges of end-of-life care and grief. VNAHSR is proud to offer this opportunity for community engagement, ensuring that no one has to face these conversations alone.
