Diversity Coalition celebrates the 20th anniversary of International Festival

Saint Michael's Diversity Coalition club held its annual International Festival, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the event on April 20. Through dance, music, speech and food, the Saint Michael’s community enjoyed an evening full of enthusiasm, engagement, and celebration of multiculturalism and diverse identities on our campus, continuing the club’s tradition. Earth Week Extravaganza

The Patrick ’61 and Marcelle Leahy Center for the Environment led an Earth Week extravaganza for Saint Michael’s, giving the College community plenty of opportunities to get their hands dirty.

Saint Michael's 2024 Commencement Speaker

Dr. Ansel Augustine, D. Min, an award-winning author and speaker, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Assistant Director of African American Affairs of the Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church, will deliver the Commencement address at Saint Michael’s College to the Class of 2024.

ST. MIKE'S DANCE TEAM PRESENTS BOOGIE NIGHTS

The Saint Michael’s Dance Team presented Boogie Knights on April 24 in McCarthy Arts Center. The event included performances by dance group Stellaris and the College’s all-female a cappella group, the Acabellas. READ MORE AND SEE A PHOTO GALLERY

ACADEMIC SYMPOSIUM

On April 25 and 26, Saint Michael’s students presented research and capstone projects during the annual Academic Symposium. Individual oral presentations were held all day Friday and part of Saturday, while Saturday largely featured a poster session in Dion Student Center. SEE A PHOTO GALLERY

TAYLOR GALGAY '24 EXHIBITS INCLUSIVE ART

Taylor Galgay ’24 believes everyone should be able to enjoy art, but accessibility is lacking in the art world. The president and cofounder of Saint Michael’s Student Disability Advocacy Alliance is part of Inclusive Arts Vermont’s latest exhibition, CYCLES. The organization specializes in exhibiting work made by disabled artists. READ MORE

PEACE CORP PREP 

Six students were recently honored for completing the requirements in the Peace Corp Prep certificate program at Saint Michael’s College. The students completed the program so they could pursue international service after graduation, including through the Peace Corps. READ MORE

ENGINEERING STUDENTS PRESENT CAPSTONES AT UVM

Students completing the Saint Michael’s College-University of Vermont 3+2 Engineering Program presented their Senior Capstone Projects at the Engineering Design Night on April 26 at UVM. READ MORE

MENTOR DAY

All four of Saint Michael’s College’s mentor programs gathered on April 19 to celebrate Mentor Day, which is supported by St. Mike's volunteer organization, MOVE. The group played pickup soccer, enjoyed inflatable festivities, food and fun. READ MORE

CHIEF METEOROLOGIST TYLER JANKOSKI VISITS CAMPUS

WPTZ Chief Meteorologist, Tyler Jankoski, visited Saint Michael's recently to meet with students taking an introduction to meteorology course with Patricia Bunt, Instructor of Physics. The group listened to his presentation in Cheray before gathering in the parking lot to see the First Alert weather lab mobile.

YOGA FUNDRAISER

Two dozen students and faculty attended a yoga class on the green recently led by Krista Billingsley to support the Burlington Yoga Equity Project. The Project provides free and incentivized yoga classes at Laughing River Yoga studio to BIPOC community members. Donations through Venmo @laughingriveryoga LEARN MORE

Read about Mary Lake '06 in the most recent Saint Michael's College Magazine issue. Lake is a shepherd, shearer, butcher, farmer, artist and writer. "I'm not an entrepreneur," Lake said. "And I don't really like the word. Too much association with money, how to use it, how to spend it, how to get someone to fund your idea."
