Vermont Business Magazine Attorney General Charity Clark today announced her campaign for re-election. Clark was sworn in as Vermont Attorney General in January of last year and is running for a second term. Clark, a Democrat, reflected on her accomplishments over the past 16 months and outlined her vision for the future.
“Sixteen months ago, Vermonters gave me the privilege of serving them and my beloved home state as Attorney General,” said Attorney General Clark. “I’m running for re-election to continue fighting for Vermonters and protecting this state we love.”
She was former Attorney General TJ Donovan's Chief of Staff, before he stepped down in June 2022. She was elected AG in the General Election of November 2022.
Accomplishments of AG Clark’s first term she cited include:
-
suing the social media giant Meta for targeting an addictive product to children and the chemical company Monsanto for PCB contamination to Vermont’s natural resources and schools;
-
defending lawsuits against the State to protect legislation on gun safety and a law that makes it illegal for crisis pregnancy centers to misrepresent in the marketplace;
-
suing the FDA to make abortions more accessible nationwide;
-
collaborating with legislators to move legislation addressing domestic violence, data privacy, and criminal records sealing; and
-
improving scam awareness and helping Vermonters and small businesses with consumer issues.
Clark, the 28th Attorney General of Vermont, is a dedicated public servant and has spent most of her career serving Vermonters. Clark was born and raised in southern Vermont and grew up working at her family’s grocery store. Before entering law school, Clark worked for Governor Howard Dean as a policy analyst. She was later hired as an Assistant Attorney General for Attorney General Bill Sorrell, and was promoted to Chief of Staff under Attorney General T.J. Donovan. She has been Vermont’s Attorney General since January 2023.
