ECLIPSE COUNTDOWN

In less than three weeks, the 2024 Great American Eclipse will throw northern Vermont into total darkness.

Depending on where you are in Vermont, the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8 will last up to 3 minutes 26 seconds.

There will be a partial eclipse before and after the total eclipse.

Vermont is expecting tens of thousands of people and possibly up to 145,000 visitors to join us to watch the moon block out the sun.

Read on for how you can be best prepared.

BUSINESSES:
If you operate a business in the path of totality, consider being open and fully staffed on Sunday, April 7 and Monday, April 8. Early April is typically slow for tourism, but that will not be the case this year.

MUNICIPALITIES:
Work for a municipality? We strongly recommend you attend the next VLCT virtual eclipse planning webinar on Thursday, April 4. Registration required

GET GOOD GLASSES
It's imperative to protect your eyes from damage during the eclipse. Please only wear ISO-approved glasses and get them from a reputable source.

TRAFFIC
Traffic is expected to be intense, particularly after the eclipse is over. If you can, please stay put. If you must travel, prepare to share the road with lots of visitors.

CELL SERVICE
There could be interruptions in cell service due to the influx of visitors. The state has plans to deploy mobile cell towers, if needed.

HOSTING AN EVENT?
The state is not hosting any eclipse events but if your business/organization/municipality is, please list it here.
