Fundraiser to Benefit Howard Center, Dragonheart Vermont, and other Rotary causes
Vermont Business Magazine Howard Center, in partnership with the South Burlington Rotary Club, invites the public to the 12th Annual Curling Classic fundraiser, on March 16, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is organized by the South Burlington Rotary Club and is an ongoing collaboration between Howard Center, Dragonheart Vermont, the Green Mountain Curling Club, the Rutland Rocks Curling Club, and once again, continues its annual tradition of goodhearted competition.
The 2024 Curling Classic, held at Cairns Arena, will see participation from over thirty teams, bringing together individuals from various sectors of the community to curl for a cause. Last year's event raised over $40,000 for Howard Center and several other organizations.
The day-long competition not only focuses on curling prowess but also celebrates creativity and community spirit, with teams competing for awards in categories such as best team name, most creative costume, and most spirited team, in addition to top fundraising achievements.
The Green Mountain Curling Club, with assistance from the Rutland Rocks Curling Club, will provide expertise, instruction, and equipment for the event with their roster of curling volunteers.
Michael Keller and John Wilking, members of the South Burlington Rotary Curling committee, emphasized the importance of the Curling Classic in supporting community initiatives. "This event is an example of how collaborative efforts can enhance our community's well-being." said Keller.
"We are proud to host this event, which not only raises essential funds and awareness for local organizations but also promotes team spirit and camaraderie among the participants, many who are playing on behalf of their company or organization while doing something good for the community," he said.
The funds will directly benefit Howard Center's client funds program which supports basic needs and enrichment activities for people served by the agency and will also support critical crisis services.
"The annual Curling Classic reflects our community's support and generosity. We are grateful to the South Burlington Rotary Club for their service and everything they do to give back," said Denise Vignoe, director of development and communications at Howard Center.
"It helps make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families we serve," Vignoe said.
