Maple syrup production rebounds to 3.1 million gallons

Vermont produces 53% of all the maple in the United States from 8.4 million taps.

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont maple syrup production was up for 2024. Vermont leads the country in production with 3.1 million gallons. Production was up 19% from 2023's 2.6 million gallons and just below 2022's 3.3 million. Vermont produces 53% of all the maple in the United States from 8.4 million taps. New York is by far the second largest producer of maple syrup at 846,000 gallons and Maine is third at 701,000 for a United States total of 5.9 million gallons.

Vermont Agriculture Secretary said, "It’s hard work but Vermont is #1."

Because of the warm winter but late snows, some Vermont sugarmakers began production in December and ran until April.

The total value will not be known for a while, but in 2023 total production was valued at $79 million, down from $108 million in 2022. At that rate, Vermont's 2024 crop would be valued at about $102 million.

Quebec is by far the world's largest producer (with Vermont second) and measures its yield in pounds. In 2024, Quebec produced 239 million pounds of maple syrup, which broke the 2022 record of 222 million pounds. This would value the 2024 Quebec production at about $550 million (USD).
