Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) today announced the list of electric vehicle (EV) charging providers that are capable of building Vermont’s charging network to federal and state specifications.
“This important step moves Vermont closer to the development of a complete, convenient, and easy-to-access network of fast chargers throughout the state,” said Transportation Secretary Joe Flynn. “The statements of qualifications that we received from local and national providers demonstrated the experience needed to deliver the complex public charging projects that will provide a consistent and reliable charging network for EV drivers in Vermont.”
Through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process, the Agency selected eight providers that will be invited to bid on forthcoming Requests for Proposals (RFP) for the design, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of public charging infrastructure along key routes and funded through programs included under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:
- Burlington Electric Department
- EvGateway LLC
- EVgo Services LLC
- FLO Services USA Inc.
- Global Montello Group Corp.
- Gridwealth EV LLC
- Norwich Technologies Inc.
- ReVision Energy Inc.
The first RFP open to these qualified vendors will be announced later this summer and will focus on installing fast chargers every 50 miles along the Vermont’s highway corridors, within one mile from highway exits, as required by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.
The goal of the program is to create a convenient national network of fast EV charging stations to support the use of more electric vehicles and increase equitable access to infrastructure and economic opportunity.
Vermont has already opened its first federally funded public EV fast charging station in Bradford through a separate procurement process, and was the sixth state in the country to install fast chargers under the NEVI program.
The next 14 of 15 priority locations identified for public fast charging in AOT’s initial NEVI plan will be the focus of the initial RFP. Awarded bidders will perform nearly all aspects of the NEVI program: secure agreements with site hosts, work with local certified contractors to design and install NEVI-compliant equipment, and operate and maintain the infrastructure for the long term to meet accessibility, reporting, and other requirements.
"Vermont’s procurement strategy demonstrates continued innovation in deploying EV charging stations that make it easy for anyone to choose to ride or drive electric in the Green Mountain State," said Gabe Klein, Executive Director of the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation. "Building on the recent opening of the state's first NEVI-funded station, Vermont is now accelerating the buildout of future EV charging stations by prequalifying vendors who will expand convenient charging across the region."
