Vermont Agency of Transportation This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will impact traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.
Interstates:
I-89 Milton-St. Albans Town – Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. motorists will be reduced to one lane northbound within the construction areas between Mile Marker 102 (near the Lamoille River Bridge) to Exit 18, Georgia. Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. motorists will be reduced to one lane southbound beginning at Exit 19 proceeding south within the construction area. The speed limit is reduced to 55 MPH within the construction area. Motorists should be aware fines are doubled when speeding through a construction zone.
I-89 Richmond – Work continues on I-89 in Richmond south of Exit 11. Northbound traffic will be traveling in the southbound passing lane just south of Exit 11 (MM 75.45 to MM 76.79). The southbound passing lane is closed to southbound traffic just south of Exit 11 (MM 77.29 to MM 75.71). The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph in the work zone. Speed enforcement will be present, and fines will be doubled.
I-89 Royalton – Work continues on the northbound and southbound I-89 bridges near Exit 3 in Royalton. A new traffic pattern is in effect until fall 2025. For southbound traffic, all vehicles will use the low-speed lane. For northbound traffic, all vehicles will cross over onto I-89 southbound and then back to I-89 northbound north of the bridges. Traffic using the I-89 northbound Exit 3 off-ramp will use the ramp crossover north of the bridges to the newly constructed I-89 northbound Exit 3 off-ramp. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph in the work zones on northbound and southbound I-89, and to 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. There will be some traffic diversions on VT 107 under the bridges while crews are working. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction on VT 107. The speed limit has been reduced to 30 mph with a 14-foot height restriction under the bridges on VT 107.
I-91 Bradford – The I-91 southbound permanent lane closure before Exit 16 for maintenance repairs of bridges remains active. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph is in effect through the work zone.
I-91 Derby – Single-lane closures will be present on I-91 from the U.S./Canadian Border Station to just south of Exit 27 in both directions while a paving project continues.
I-91 Fairlee – A full closure of I-91 Southbound between Exits 16 and 15 will be in effect for the remainder of the summer. Vehicles must exit the interstate at Exit 16 and detour on U.S. 5 to Exit 15 in Fairlee. Temporary signals are in place on U.S. 5 in Fairlee. Delays may occur, particularly during morning and afternoon commuting hours. Rolling roadblocks on I-91 Northbound will be in effect Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
I-91 Springfield-Hartland – Multiple single-lane closures will be in place along I-91 southbound from north of Exit 9 to just south of Exit 7 while a paving project continues. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph is in effect through the work zone. Motorists should watch for shifting traffic patterns, and motorcyclists should continue to use caution on grooved and uneven surfaces.
I-91 Westminster – A bridge deck replacement project is underway on I-91 over VT 121. A crossover is in effect with a speed reduction to 55 mph. Fines are doubled for speeding within the construction zone. VT 121 at the location of the bridges is limited to one-lane alternating traffic regulated by temporary signals Monday through Friday.
State Highways:
Bennington – Work will continue Monday at 7 a.m. with lane closures as necessary to safely perform the work along US 7 and VT 279, mostly around the welcome center, but work can be expected to continue from the NY boarder to Route 9, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Bennington – Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., motorists can expect intermittent lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on VT 67A, Silk Road, Matteson Road (Rice Lane), and College Drive to facilitate independent utility work.
Berlin – One-way alternating traffic patterns with flaggers will be in place during paving operations on Airport Road between the intersections of Granger Road and Piper Road. Expect delays. Motorcycles should use caution on milled and uneven surfaces. Temporary pavement markings will be in place.
Berlin-Barre – Single-lane closures will be in place on VT 62 from the intersection with Airport Road to the intersection with U.S. 302 while a paving project continues. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times. Motorists should be aware of grooved and uneven surfaces and the application of temporary pavement markings.
Berlin-Barre Town – A paving project continues on VT 63. Single-lane closures will be in place next week from I-89 Exit 6 interchange to VT 14, and one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times. Motorists should be aware that rumble strips and temporary pavement marking will be installed throughout the project.
Brattleboro-Hinsdale – Construction traffic will continue to enter and exit the construction site for the new bridge from VT 142 and Depot Street. The eastbound lane shift on VT/NH 119 shortly after passing over the twin bridges into New Hampshire remains in place with signs and barrels to assist vehicles through the work zone.
Cambridge-Johnson – A resurfacing project is underway on VT 15 in Cambridge and Johnson. Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., motorists can expect moderate delays and with alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 from just outside the Village of Johnson limits near Park Street and extending west to the VT 15/ VT 108 junction in Cambridge.
Colchester – Work is underway to improve the I-89 Exit 17 interchange and the intersection of U.S. 2 and U.S. 7 in Colchester. Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., there will be a lane shift to the southern side of the road and intermittent stop s on U.S. 2 near the I-89 Exit 17 southbound off-ramp. Traffic along U.S. 7 between the Shell Gas Station and Wiley Road will be shifted to the eastern side of the road. Outside of peak hours, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., there will be alternating one-way traffic along U.S. 7.
Fairfax-St. Albans – Paving from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on VT 104 and St. Albans State Highway in St. Albans. Motorists can expect delays and alternating one-way traffic.
Fairfield – The deck replacement continues on Bridge #6 on VT 36, 7.7 miles west of the VT 108 junction. On Monday at 7:00 a.m. the 28-day bridge closure begins. Motorists will follow a signed detour.
Grafton – A bridge replacement project is underway on VT 121 over the Saxtons River in Grafton. Traffic signals are in place on either end of the bridge, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for alternating one-way traffic over the existing bridge.
Hartford-U.S. Route 5 – Sunday through Thursday during nighttime hours, motorists should expect minor delays and alternating one-way lane traffic shifts on U.S. 5 between Bugbee Street and Highland Ave, from Bugbee Street to VT 14, and from the VA Cutoff Road to the Sykes Mountain Ave roundabout. Monday through Friday during daytime hours, motorists should expect significant delays and alternating one-way lane closures on U.S. 5 from Lesle Drive near the Maxfield Sports Complex to the Hartland town line. Flaggers and uniformed traffic officers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.
Ludlow – Pleasant Street at the junction of Pleasant Street and Mill Street remains closed to all vehicle traffic to facilitate project construction. A detour is in place that guides vehicle traffic from Pleasant Street along Elm Street, Main Street, and Pleasant Street Extension.
Marshfield-Danville – Monday Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., motorists can expect lane closures with alternating one-way traffic patterns and moderate delays on U.S. 2 from the Plainfield/Marshfield town line to the VT 15 and U.S. 2 intersection in West Danville. Motorists should expect a gravel road surface when traveling on U.S. 2 from Danville Hill Road east toward West Danville. Flaggers and uniform traffic officers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.
Montpelier – Monday night through Friday morning, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., there will be alternating one-way traffic with flaggers in place to assist motorists along U.S. 2 from the Bailey Ave intersection to the Berlin/Montpelier town line, and at the U.S. 2/U.S. 302 roundabout along U.S. 302 to the Montpelier/Berlin town line. Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., there will be alternating one-way traffic with flaggers in place to assist motorists throughout the project limits along U.S. 2 from the Bailey Ave intersection to the Berlin/Montpelier town line, along U.S. 2 from the Middlesex/Montpelier town line to the Memorial Drive intersection, and at the U.S. 2/U.S. 302 roundabout along U.S. 302 to the Montpelier/Berlin town line.
Montpelier – Paving projects are progressing on Memorial Drive and Dog River Road. Single-lane closures are anticipated on both roads during the day. One lane of traffic will be maintained in either direction on Memorial Drive, and flaggers provide alternating traffic patterns on Dog River Road.
Morristown – Motorists should expect occasional lane closures with flaggers during daytime hours on VT 15 in Morristown (MM 0.319-0.339) due to a culvert installation. The work is taking place between East Main Street in Hyde Park and Needles Eye Road in Morristown. Construction will be active at the inlet and outlet of the culvert. Motorists can expect occasional lane closures with flaggers during daytime hours and are advised to use caution when driving through the area.
Northfield-Berlin – On VT 12, single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic will be in place in the Chandler Road area and south of Crosstown Road in Northfield while a paving project continues.
Pittsford – Motorists are traveling over the temporary bridge. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. traffic control will be present to allow for intermittent one-way alternating travel on U.S. Route 7.
Pownal- Dorset – Work will resume on Monday at 7 a.m. with daily lane closures as necessary to facilitate the installation of signs along U.S. 7 from Dorset to Pownal between 7 am. and 6 p.m.
Richmond – Traffic control will be present on U.S. 2 Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a single-lane of alternating travel.
Richmond-Bolton – Minimal traffic interruptions on U.S. Route 2 between Kenyon Road and Cochran Road can be anticipated Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Royalton – On Monday, there will be alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers. From Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. until Monday, July 29, there will be a 21-day closure of VT 14 in Royalton between Vesper Road and Meadow Lane. The regional detour route is VT 14 to VT 107 and I-89 back to VT 14. Portable message signs are on I-89 NB and SB, VT 107, and VT 14 to notify motorists of the closure. The closure of the railroad is scheduled for Thursday, July 11 at 6 a.m. until Tuesday, July 16 at 8 p.m.
Rutland – A Class I highway resurfacing project is in progress. From Sunday at 7 p.m. to Friday at 7 a.m., motorists can expect lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers and uniformed traffic officers on U.S. 4 between Gleason Road and U.S. 7, and on U.S. 7 between Cold River Road and Lincoln Avenue between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Motorists traveling on these routes should expect grooved and uneven roadway surfaces with raised manhole structures.
Woodstock – A culvert replacement project is ongoing on U.S. 4 near Valley View Road. A temporary bypass road is in place. Motorists should expect flaggers stopping traffic as required to allow trucks to enter and exit the job site.
Worcester – Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic maintained by traffic signals over the temporary bridge on VT 12. The speed limit on the temporary bridge is 25 mph. The posted speed limit entering and exiting the work zone is 40 mph.
