Vermont Business Magazine The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced 12 grants totaling $217,000 to Vermont arts and cultural organizations and artists, including two fellowships to Vermont authors.
The Vermont awards are part of more than $32 million in recommended NEA grants to organizations in all 50 states and US jurisdictions.
“The NEA is pleased to announce these grants, all of which strengthen our nation’s arts sector in different ways. Whether it’s the creation of new art, opportunities for the public to participate and engage in the arts, or work to better understand the impact of the arts, these grants contribute to the well-being of individuals and communities, help meet the challenges of our time, and build towards a future in which all people can lead artful lives and reach their full potential,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD.
“We are grateful to the NEA for its continued support of and investment in the nation’s arts and cultural ecosystem, and we congratulate the 12 recipients who were recognized by the NEA for their outstanding work,” said Vermont Arts Council Executive Director Susan Evans McClure.
The Vermont recipients are:
Brattleboro Museum & Art Center, Brattleboro, $10,000, to support a collaborative art project inspired by a contemporary art exhibition
New England Center for Circus Arts, Brattleboro, $15,000, to support the creation and touring of circus shows
Retreat Farm, Brattleboro, $10,000, to support a free outdoor summer concert series in rural Vermont
Big Heavy World, $10,000, to support arts programming focused on expanding audiences for Vermont music
Burlington City Arts, $20,000, to support a youth-led community arts project on the theme of identity
President & Fellows of Middlebury College, $15,000, to support the publication and promotion of the New England Review
Dominican Republic Education and Mentoring Project (DREAM), Milton, $32,000, to support traditional Dominican music and dance instruction for charter students
Shidaa Projects, $10,000, to support a youth camp and community events showcasing West African cultural arts
Anne Rockwell, North Bennington, $15,000, to support a literature fellowship to translate from the Urdu of the novel, “The Traveler Wandered from Town to Town” by Pakistani writer Nisar Aziz Butt
Sandglass Center for Puppetry and Theater Research, Putney, $25,000, to support the Puppets in the Green Mountains theater festival
Alexis Lathem, Richmond, $25,000, to support a creative writing fellowship
Governor’s Institute on the Arts, $30,000, to support the Governor’s Institute on the Arts, a summer immersion program for Vermont high school students
