Vermont Business Magazine Snapshots of a Life: Essays, a debut memoir by former director of the Vermont Association for Mental Health, Ken Libertoff, of Montpelier, Vermont, will be released by Rootstock Publishing on January 16, 2024.

“This memoir by first-time author Ken Libertoff is a gem,” said Howard Dean, former governor of Vermont from 1991-2003. “It’s beautifully written with engaging, absorbing stories presented in a pleasing authentic voice. The essays are insightful and laced with sharp humor, a sense of poignancy, and a zest for life in all its complexities. Snapshots of a Life takes the reader on a journey through his life’s adventures, challenges, triumphs, and trials, while inviting readers to reflect on their own narratives. This memoir will captivate and delight readers,” he said.

In Snapshots of a Life Libertoff shares his memories from the bleachers at old Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, working at Boggiano’s Bar and Grill in Rockaway, and playing on the basketball courts of New York City, to a full career as a mental health advocate in New England with work and travel to South Africa, Botswana, and Swaziland. His stories capture his life in various settings while never losing sight of home.

“My book is predicated on the notion that everyone has a story to tell,” said author Ken Libertoff. “My own writing career started at age seventy-four when I wandered into a small writing group without a plan or purpose. I was encouraged to write about my life, and found power in creating my life’s story through memories. Not every reader will write their own story, but making sense of your life and sharing it with others in whatever form is a true gift,” he said.

Libertoff spent over three decades as a mental health care advocate in Vermont and nationally. When he retired in 2010, he received the Legendary Leadership Award from Mental Health America. He lives with his wife Sarah in an 1865 farmhouse outside of Montpelier where he embraces a new passion for writing. He turns seventy-nine years old on the day his debut book releases.

A book launch event called “Books & Bagels” with Ken Libertoff is scheduled for Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., at the Christ Episcopal Church, 64 State Street in Montpelier, with books for sale by Bear Pond Books.
