Vermont Business Magazine Lamoille Valley communities will soon have access to an up-to-date housing needs and assessment report, a publicly available resource to help area communities increase their understanding of the area’s housing ecosystem and tool to inform future planning.
“This report will provide vital housing data and detail to local decision makers, as well as contribute to policy making going forward,” says Lamoille County Planning Commission Executive Director, Tasha Wallis.
The report will provide an overall assessment of Lamoille County and the Town of Hardwick’s housing stock and housing needs, including workforce housing demand and supply, as well as guidance and recommendations for future housing development efforts within the study’s geographic area. The study will also examine impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, flooding and climate resiliency, and short-term rentals.
Study collaborators representing community planning, housing, conservation, economic development, and real estate sectors include Lamoille County Planning Commission, Lamoille Housing Partnership, Stowe Land Trust, Lamoille Economic Development Corporation, and Lamoille Area Board of Realtors.
"We eagerly await the results and guidance of this landmark housing study to catalyze impactful, collaborative conversations and decision-making within our communities, municipalities, and organizations to address this critical issue,” says Amy Stewart, Stowe Land Trust’s board chair.
"Housing in Vermont is at the forefront of the public dialogue, and in response pressure is mounting on legislators and planners to take immediate action,” says Lamoille Area Board of Realtors President, Grant Wieler. “Our hope with this project is to facilitate informed collaboration among stakeholders to develop a cohesive plan for advancing our communities collectively.”
The housing needs and assessment report’s public availability is targeted for Spring 2024. Additional information forthcoming.
