Vermont AFL-CIO announces JP Isabelle as executive director

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont State Labor Council AFL-CIO is pleased to announce that JP Isabelle has been selected as the organization’s new Executive Director.  Isabelle started on Monday, December 9.  A seasoned and dedicated union activist, Isabelle brings experience from his time as an employee representative on the State Employees Retirement Board and the State Employees Bargaining Team.

“I am honored to serve as Executive Director of the Vermont AFL CIO,” said Isabelle.  “Workers’ voices are needed now more than ever.  I am committed to advancing the values of solidarity, fairness, and fighting for better wages and working conditions for all Vermonters.”

The Vermont AFL-CIO is working to strengthen its relationships with local unions, expanding membership, and addressing the evolving needs of Vermont’s workforce.  A key focus for Vermont labor will be Proposal 3, an amendment to the Vermont Constitution enshrining the right to collectively bargain.  Larry Moquin, President of the Vermont AFL-CIO, said the passage of Proposal 3 in the upcoming legislative biennium will be the top priority of the group.

“We are excited to bring JP aboard as we embark on a grassroots campaign to enshrine the right to form a union in Vermont’s constitution,” said Moquin. “Proposal 3 would ensure that working Vermonters have a voice in Montpelier for generations to come.”

Aimee Bertrand, Executive Vice-President of the VT AFL-CIO and President of the Vermont State Employees Association had this to say on Isabelle’s hire. “I am ecstatic to bring JP aboard.  As a former state employee, JP deeply understands the issues facing working Vermonters and has a fantastic background in Vermont politics.”
