- Vermont ranks fifth in the US, with 12,427 average monthly Google searches regarding lost mail per 100k citizens
- Colorado tops the list, with 12,667 average monthly Google searches regarding lost mail
- The state where your mail is least likely to be lost is Oklahoma, with 8,974 monthly searches
Vermont Business Magazine New research has revealed the states where your mail is most likely to be lost, with Vermont ranking fifth.
Experts in digital mailboxes at iPostal1 analyzed the average number of monthly Google searches in each state for over 150 terms related to lost mail, including ‘USPS mail recovery’ and ‘FedEx lost mail.’ The number of searches in each state were compared to the population to determine which state has the most lost mail per 100,000 citizens.
At the top of the list is Colorado, with 12,667 cases of lost mail per 100,000 citizens each month. This could be attributed to the challenging weather conditions in the state throughout the winter months, as well as its mountainous terrain.
In second place is New York, with 12,631 occurrences of lost mail per 100,000 residents each month. New York is known for its dense and busy urban areas, which combined with the state’s complex infrastructure, could contribute towards delivery issues.
Next on the list is Florida, with 12,583 monthly Google searches regarding lost mail per 100,000 people. This could be due to the challenging weather conditions that the state sometimes experiences. The state also has a lot of seasonal visitors, which could put strain on the postal system.
With 12,576 incidents of lost mail per 100,000 citizens each month, Georgia ranks fourth. Georgia's growing population and expanding urban centers, like Atlanta, could overwhelm postal services, leading to increased instances of lost mail.
Vermont ranks fifth, with 12,427 monthly occurrences of missing mail per 100,000 residents. Despite being a smaller state, it has one of the highest incidence rates of lost mail. The rural nature of much of the state could complicate efficient mail delivery.
Sixth is Wyoming, with 12,356 lost letters and packages per 100,000 citizens each month. Wyoming's vast and sparsely populated areas could pose challenges to postal services, leading to more occurrences of lost mail.
Washington is next on the list, with 12,250 monthly searches about missing mail per 100,000 people. This could be attributed to the state’s varied terrain and rainy climate.
Next, with 12,148 monthly occurrences of lost mail per 100,000 residents, is Maine. The state’s rural areas and tough winters could contribute to difficulties in ensuring timely and accurate mail delivery.
In ninth place is Nevada, with 12,109 monthly searches regarding lost mail per 100,000 citizens. The high rates of tourism in cities like Las Vegas, as well as the state’s large desert regions and fluctuating population dynamics, could be a factor in the high rate of lost mail.
Tenth is Oregon, with 12,053 cases of missing mail per 100,000 people each month. Oregon could face challenges with lost mail due to its diverse geography, which includes both densely forested areas and urban centers, as well as frequent rainy weather.
On the other hand, the state least likely to lose your mail is Oklahoma, with just 8,974 monthly searches regarding missing mail per 100,000 residents. Closely following are Mississippi and South Dakota, with 9,351 and 9,427 monthly searches per 100,000 citizens, respectively.
Jeff Milgram, CEO and Founder of iPostal1 said: “While the postal service works diligently to deliver mail promptly and accurately, certain states face inherent challenges that make this task more difficult. Residents in states like Colorado, New York, and Florida should be particularly vigilant about tracking their mail and reporting any issues to their local postal services.
“While the postal service continually strives to improve reliability, there are steps individuals can take to minimize the risk of lost mail, such as ensuring that addresses are accurate and include all necessary details, as well as using secure or digital mailboxes.”
This information was provided by iPostal1, the leading digital mailbox provider in the world.
Methodology
For each keyword used in the analysis (listed below), search volume data was retrieved from Google Keyword Planner for the past 12 months for each state in the US. This monthly data was then aggregated to determine a monthly average search volume for each keyword in each location.
