Vermont Business Magazine Fifty former patients and family members, donors, and Copley providers, staff, and Board Members gathered on Tuesday, July 23 to celebrate the official opening of the William B. DeLaney Infusion Center.

The new Infusion Center, which serves 2,500 patients a year, is named for a former patient and longtime Copley supporter, the late William B. DeLaney, thanks to a generous gift from Bill’s wife Beverly DeLaney. Though Bill and Beverly lived for over 50 years in Cleveland, Ohio, they spent annual summer vacations in Craftsbury.

“Bill counted the days to when we could travel to Vermont,” said Beverly, who shared that as Bill’s health declined, he needed weekly blood transfusions. Beverly says she was relieved to learn that Bill could get his required care at Copley. “Thanks to Copley, a happy decision was made that we’d be able to spend another summer at our favorite place.”

When Beverly received a notice about the Infusion Center expansion, she quickly jumped at the opportunity to give back.

Infusion Center staff care for patients with a wide variety of cancer diagnoses and provide chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other targeted therapies under the oversight of CVMC oncologist, Dr. Rahul Anil, who is onsite at Copley Hospital twice a month. The clinic also serves patients needing care for blood conditions, iron infusions, injections, and blood-product transfusions.

Engelberth Construction – which built The Woodlands at Stowe, Copley Hospital’s Independent Living community – completed the renovation project. The new space has three private rooms, three semi-private rooms, a common gathering area lit by a skylight, a water feature, and beautiful art on the walls. The space is calming, tranquil, and welcoming, it meets the growing demand for community members to get the care they need at their local hospital. “We finally have a space that reflects the kind of care that we are so proud to give our patients; care and comfort that is close to home,” said Infusion Center’s Laura Labow, APRN-BC, MSN, AOCNP. “It’s been wonderful seeing this project come together, and we look forward to caring for our patients in the new space. Thank you to the DeLaney family for giving us this opportunity.”
