2024 Flood Damage Survey for Businesses
Agency of Commerce and Community Development We are requesting that victims of both of the July flooding events complete the Department of Economic Development's Flood Damage Survey for Businesses.
Survey data will be used to help us advocate for future relief and recovery programs for businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Prioritize Removal of Debris
The removal of debris is essential to minimize future damage, particularly with more rain in the forecast. This includes wood, construction materials, rocks, and sediment.
When cleaning up, separate debris and leave it on the edge of the right-of-way for town disposal. Set aside hazardous materials for later disposal. Visit the Agency of Natural Resources’ Flood page for more guidance on flood cleanup.
Crisis Cleanup Hotline
Vermonters can call the state’s Crisis Cleanup Hotline to request volunteer assistance and help cleaning up debris, mucking out basements, or other recovery work. Call the Crisis Cleanup Hotline at 802-242-2054.
Report Storm Damage to 211
Report all home, business, and farm damage to Vermont 211 even if you are not submitting an insurance claim. To do this electronically, use the “Resident Form” or “Business Form”. You can also call 211 to report damage, but online reporting is preferred.

All data reported to Vermont 211 is being used only to help the state assess the extent of the damage as it applies to a federal disaster declaration.
Please note: 211 is not for reporting emergencies. If you are experiencing an emergency, please call 911.
Supporting Visitors

Register for VT-ALERT to receive vital emergency information such as evacuation information; chemical spills; shelter-in-place alerts; severe weather advisories; boil water advisories, and roadway interruptions.
Mental Health Support
Flooding is extremely traumatizing and for Vermonters who experienced losses in last summer’s floods, this event can be particularly difficult. Here is some advice from Vermont’s Mental Health Commissioner Emily Hawes:
- Stay informed, but limit news exposure. Take media breaks to protect your mental health.
- Rely only on trusted sources for information.
- Keep in regular contact with family and friends.
- Acknowledge your feelings. Anxiety, fear, and a sense of helplessness are natural.
- Prioritize self-care including getting enough rest.
If you need to talk to someone you can call access Starting Over Strong Vermont by calling 211. You can also call 988, the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which will connect you to someone locally.
