Vermont Business Magazine The Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport (Leahy BTV) announced today that its fixed based operator, Heritage Aviation, has reached general aviation (private) aircraft reservation capacity for the Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8th, 2024. Commercial operations will continue at BTV with the exception for the eclipse totality. There will also be an eclipse viewing celebration at the airport.

Nic Longo, Director of Aviation at Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport, expressed his satisfaction with Heritage Aviation's meticulous preparations, stating, "We are elated with the well-executed advanced preparations that our business partner, Heritage Aviation, has made for Monday’s monumental Solar Eclipse. This is the greatest quantity of traffic the airport has ever experienced in a sign. These advanced preparations are reflective of Heritage Aviation’s continuous professionalism and strong partnership with the Leahy BTV aviation community. This effort has shown our strong collaborative relationships and ability to rely on expertise from a wide range of airport partners including the FAA, Air Traffic Control."

Longo concluded: “And on top of this, Leahy BTV will continue to operate all commercial flights as normal while we also host a 1,000 plus person event, TRANSCEND, right on the airfield. Terminal services will continue as scheduled except for a small pause during the Totality. Please plan to arrive at least 2 hours early for your flights as auto traffic congestion will heavy during this momentous event.”

For general aviation pilots who have secured their aircraft reservation with Heritage Aviation, the following guidelines are recommended:

  • Arrive early and plan for anticipated elevated traffic.
  • Check Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMS).
  • Reference Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) special procedure guidance for eclipses.

As excitement builds for this celestial event, Leahy BTV and Heritage Aviation stand ready to ensure a safe and memorable experience for all participants.
There is anticipated traffic congestion and road closures affecting travel to Leahy BTV on Monday. To ensure a smooth travel experience, passengers are strongly advised to plan to arrive much earlier than usual. Our normal suggested guideline is to arrive at least two hours before departure, Due to potential challenges in reaching the airport, arriving even earlier is strongly advised.
